Adobe Flash / FireFox

Dear Readers,

Me again with problems...

This applies on my laptop running Win7/64-bit.

And I can't seem to view YouTube / other sites that uses Adobe Flash...

Here's the weird thing... When the little warning that a missing Plug-in is detected and I try to INSTALL the latest version of Adobe Flash, it SAYS it has successfully installed, but when I click on OK, it reloads and asks to install it again..

I've tried the following already:

1. Clear Cookies/Cache from Firefox

2. Un/Re-installed Adobe Flash

3. Un/Re-installed Firefox

(Tried a FRESH profile and that didn't do anything)

And I've also ran Registry cleaner, with JV16 Powertools.

So I'm sorta out of ideas as to what might've happened to cause this... As my Desktop works fine... just the Laptop is giving me this problem.

So any advice? As I don't want to format to 'fix' this problem.

I believe you need to download the Flash plug-in, close FireFox, and install the plug-in. I have, many time, tried the method that you mentioned and got the same result. The manual install seem to always work for me.

i have read somewhere that Flash player and Searchlight addons dont work with 64 bits.

The solution can be to use IE 32 bit version under \program files (x86).

i m not sure though

Try to create a a new Firefox profile and see if everything works perfectly. Sometimes it is the profile that has a problem.

Are you using FireFox 3.6 beta 1 ?

- If yes, return to Firefox 3.5.3 (final).

Firefox 3.6 beta 1, blocks Adobe Flash Player.

@box: Yes, I've tried installing the Plug-in via Mozilla's site

@ karachidude: Yups, using the 32-bit and not the 64-bit

@ Bizarre™: No luck, although I do notice, unno if it's supposed to, when installing the Flash Player and looking at the details, is it supposed to extract/copy anything to the Firefox folder? If so, it doesn't.

@ Tucker: No go, as I've tried that already as well.

@ jofre: Tried various versions 3.0.14 / 3.5.3 / 3.6, no difference.

@ DKT27: No errors, from youtube just tells me:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

^I've googled that and tried the various 'fixes' others offtered and no luck.

For other sites, it just shows me a big white box and it tells me to install the plug-in.

No 'error messages' so to speak.

Well I had the same flash error(when tryin to open a flash page) but on IE. I was able to run flash player only when I reinstalled IE. Reinstalling Flash didn't help.

I would suggest one thing..I did this for everything including Java..a while back.. but for Flash.. and you will have to modify this for your Windows 7 OS..but try this..

1. Close all applications and programs..( check the Task Manager and make sure that your application EXE files are terminated.. if not do so.. and yo should check your system for infection ) one more note.. ( make sure you have cleared all Temp Files and so on.. ) and then uninstall Adobe Flash..uninstall Adobe Shockwave

2. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and Look for folders named 'Adobe' and 'Macromed'...You will delete and shred the contents of both folders..

3. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\{Insert Account Name Here}\Application Data\Mozilla\plugins, and C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins and look for any DLL file that is related to either Shockwave or Flash.. there should not be anything in there..BUT older installations can cause it..

4. Clean your registry.. this will delete anything relative to the files or the installations.. unless you have exclusions in the list..You will need to reboot afterwards.

5. Got to Adobe.com and download the most recent versions of Adobe Shockwave and Adobe Flash.. close all applications using the Internet.. in anyway.. Install both of these..( checking not to install crapware with it.. of course )

You should be able to do anything you need to do right away..after opening your browser and going back to w/e site and doing w/e it is that you were doing..LOL.. if not try a restart..of the OS.. if this still doesn't work I would use SpyBot Search and Destroy to scan for anything and search for an issue..

@heath28m: Dang... Tried all that and still no avail ><

EDIT:

Spybot found only cookies but that didn't do anything.

Try reinstalling FF. Reinstalling IE worked for me. Just export(copy/paste) your settings and reinstall FF.

@DKT27: Tried that already. Hehe I've tried many things which don't seem to do anything...Drats I might have to end up formatting.

EDIT:

Just for the sake of trying, I tried Google Chrome and no luck either.

^Nopes, gonna try Opera now.

Although dunno why when I try to install it... after about halfway through, I get hit with a bunch of Errors

"Error 1406. Could not write value .wgt to key \SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\Capabilities\FileAssociations. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your suppport peronnel."

And this occurs for quite a lot of extensions, but installs...

The WEIRD part is... When I install flash for Opera... it WORKS, and it works on Firefox as well...

Cause as I noticed, when installing it.. I see that i installs it to the OPERA folder...

But when I uninstall Opera... And try to install it again... It doesn't install it to the Firefox folder... and just extracts to another folder..

Sounds like you have a few installer issues.. Have you tired checking for ALL updates with 7? You may be missing an upgrade...I get this same error for a couple of programs that run from the Windows Installer.. have for quite sometime. and still haven't found a resolve yet.. other than trying to track down.. the original installation files..if there are any..

That error however means that even though the installer acts and responds as if it was finished it is not be accomplished..Do you have an SRP or are you in an LUA? Have HIPS, HIDS Protections in place? This could be blocking this as well..

@DKT27: That is exactly how I went about Uninstalling/Reinstallign Flash, no go.

@heath28m: Sorry, some of those terms completely went through me (SRP/LUA/HIPS/HIDS Protections), as I only use Avira Premium and Spyware Blaster along wtih AdBlock Plus)

Tried, as again, I've tried a new Profile, and that didn't do anything...

So for now.. I guess I just have to live with Opera being installed on my Laptop alongside Firefox... Lame.

Changing the profile would be the last thing that can be done here.

So when did the problem started? Did you remember installing anythin? Tried different "computer" profile(different user)?

Why Opera? Why not Chrome?

Changing profile didn't do anything either, as I tried importing my desktop one to laptop, nothing.

I chose Opera because I've tried Chrome and don't like it.. BUt as I explained in a few posts above.. Chrome didn't solve anything... But somehow for Opera... When I install Flash, it installs to the Opera directory, and at the same time allows for Firefox to work with Flash.

When I try to install flash when Opera isn't installed... It doesn't install into Firefox's directory, which might be the reason... Same applies for Chrome, it doesn't install to its directory.

Well to be honest, I have never seen flash bein installed in a non WINDOWS folder. Why it's different in Opera.

I'm astonished to see that both FF and Chrome is havin same problem.

I think you have already tried removin registry entries?

I know that the Flash doesn't work with IEx64 but not Windows64. Also, Firefox is x86. I am doing it exactly.
