nir
The US government has initiated an extraordinary outreach campaign to foreign allies, trying to persuade wireless and internet providers in these countries to avoid telecommunications equipment from Chinese company Huawei, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The move will ramp up pressure on GCSB Minister Andrew Little and Communications Minister Kris Faafoi, who both say the government has yet to make a decision on whether Huawei should be blocked form 5G upgrades in NZ - as security agencies in the US and Australia have already recommended. Officials familiar with the current effort say concerns about telecom-network vulnerabilities predate the Trump era and reflect longstanding national-security worries, the Journal says. It notes that the push comes as telcos around the world prepare to buy new hardware for 5G, the coming generation of mobile technology. US officials say they worry about the prospect of Chinese telecom-equipment makers spying on or disabling connections to an exponentially growing universe of things, including components of manufacturing plants, the Journal says. The paper quotes an un-named US official who says, "There are additional complexities to 5G networks that make them more vulnerable to cyberattacks." While US suspicion of Huawei is longstanding, its previous efforts have focussed on keeping the Chinese company out of the US. Now, it's broadening its battle lines. Here, Little and Faafoi have been notably muted in their comments compared to politicians in the US and Australia, however. Little has said that New Zealand will make its own decision. Pressure could be eased by the fact NZ does not host US forces - unlike Italy, Japan and Germany, whose telcos all use Huawei kit. "One US concern centers on the use of Chinese telecom equipment in countries that host American military bases, according to people familiar with the matter," the Journal says. "The Defense Department has its own satellites and telecom network for sensitive communications, but most traffic at many military installations travels through commercial networks." steven36
More news from unnamed sources like the chip story . And who in government told others not too use them ? I know for a fact stories like these set a world wide phobia were people don't want to use Chinese made products . I see it even with open source Linux were many are dissing a Chinese made distro on reddit. Even though its been reviewed as clean from back doors people are still afraid to use it, because the Chinese Government could plant a back door in a update . The reason it was reviewed was the Chip story by bloomberg. All the media does is spread fear . People in the USA can still buy Huawei phones it was only ban for Government use , it was not ban for home use. People read stuff like this and they stop buying them. Huawei is only unofficially banned. There's a big difference between unofficially banned and officially banned. Electronics distributors such as Best Buy have bowed to pressure and now refuse to carry Huawei devices of any kind. But Best Buy is known to work with the FBI ..If they work on something for you and find something illegal they will turn you in and collect a reward. But Amazon still sells Huawei phones and they hold contracts with the USA Government and were even accused of having spy chips in there products and still they dont bow down to the Government on what they sell. https://www.amazon.com/Cell-Phones-Huawei-Accessories/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A7072561011%2Cp_89%3AHuawei You can also buy them at NewEgg FREE shipping https://www.newegg.com/Huawei/BrandStore/ID-15388 Ebay https://www.ebay.com/b/Huawei-Smartphones/9355/bn_349965 Or buy them direct https://consumer.huawei.com/us/ Quote Morgan Patrick, former Huawei PR: At China HQ, for 3rd Parties, Freelance Western Mainstream Media has been destroying Huawei’s reputation by airing reports that the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, the Department of Defense, and so on, are all issuing warnings that Huawei devices are spy-gear and a threat to national security. So while there is monumental resistance against Huawei, there is no official ban. So if even if the Government Agency's said this or not the Western Mainstream Media is working with them to spread fear and there no better than they are .There just being used as a pawn and it's been working too because you see the fear on social media . Even if its not true it sets a precedence not to use them .witch everyone knows i'm not a fan of the Chinese Government and cant stand there policies on human rights . But i find this sort of idiotic when most everyone's PCs and phones in the USA in use today are made in China they was just made in a different plant was all. The US government's preferred phone is blackberry but also apple has a government line of products. The biggest problems Huawei has in the USA is the main stream media reporting bad things about them and the fact is most people don't buy phones in the USA they lease to own them from Big Telco and Big Telco lines the Governments pockets for dropping things like Net Neutrality and Big Telco refuses to lease Huawei devices because there in bed with the government. Only 16.7 percent of the workforce in the USA is employed by the Government the rest is private industry . The FCC can ban Huawei devices if they wanted by just saying they don't comply with FCC guidelines, but they don't only thing the Government has done is advise people not to use them. Well at lest that's what the main stream media says they never came to me and said not use them. Even if something officially is banned is the USA don't mean you can't buy it, we have Electronics shops that will sell you anything you want off the black market i use to buy stuff from them and modified Electronics for myself and others for a fee back in the 80s and 90s. One of my friends i went to school with even had his own shop . Before we used the internet we use to just call a warehouse and they would send us a catalog and we would just order it wholesale. Kits were you build yourself or pre made exports and parts to modify existing legal units.
