Microsoft Confirms Two Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4462933 Issues

Edge Developer Tools may no longer work after the update

Microsoft rolled out cumulative update KB4462933 on October 24 to bring a long list of improvements and fixes to systems running Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803).

And while this update came without any known issues at first, Microsoft has released more information on the problems you may experience after installing it, confirming two different bugs hitting Windows 10 systems.

First and foremost, it’s an issue that may break down the Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge. Launching this menu may no longer work, Microsoft confirms, adding that users can already fix this problem on their own until a patch is provided.

On Windows 10 x64, in order to get the Developer Tools up working once again, you need to log in with an administrator account and then delete the following file:

C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe\microsoft.system.package.metadata\Autogen\JSByteCodeCache_64

If you’re running Windows on a x86 machine, you need to delete the following file and then restart the browser:

C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_8wekyb3d8bbwe\microsoft.system.package.metadata\Autogen\JSByteCodeCache_32

 

No failed installs though

And second of all, there’s a bug which Microsoft says could also occur after you install the August Preview of Quality Rollup or September 11, 2018 .NET Framework update.

“After you install the August Preview of Quality Rollup or September 11, 2018, .NET Framework update, instantiation of SqlConnection can throw an exception,” Microsoft says.

A workaround also exists, and you can find all the steps to manually resolve the problem in a support document here.

Meanwhile, I haven’t seen any reports of failed installs yet, so the only problems with cumulative updates KB4462933 are said to be the ones listed here.

Microsoft is getting ready to publish a new set of cumulative updates as part of the November 2018 Patch Tuesday cycle and further fixes, including for the issues mentioned here, could be provided as well. The rollout will begin next Tuesday on November 13.

Can't find this file on my Windows 10 X64. Home. Anyway, I have no idea what I should do with Developer Tool.

Haven't experienced this issue.
