Odd change in Windows 10 leads to new debate

 

A silent change that Microsoft has implemented in Windows 10 is the subject of a new controversy around how the software giant updates the operating system despite user feedback.

 

Specifically, as many users noted on reddit, Windows 10 no longer shows daylight saving reminders, a feature that was previously available on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

 

Launching the date and time popup on Windows 10 on the eve of a daylight saving time update shows no information, while on previous Windows versions, such a notification was displayed whenever the additional details were accessed.

 

However, it’s worth noting this isn’t a change that was part of Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), which was often criticized for the plethora of bugs that were included in the OS, but in all versions of the OS, both old and new.

 

A software update would help resolve it

 

Microsoft hasn’t actually commented on this controversy, and it’s not known if this is the intended behavior or the company has only forgotten to add the reminder in the updated time and date UI.

 

Of course, it shouldn’t be too difficult for Microsoft to resolve this problem, as a simple software update could bring back the daylight saving time reminder, but before anything, the company needs to actually acknowledge whether the feature was removed on purpose.

 

Windows 10 version 1809, which is still not available for production devices across the world, lacks the feature as well.

 

Version 1809 was first launched on October 2 before it was pulled only a few days later due to a critical bug leading to the removal of user files stored in libraries. Fixes have already been developed, but Microsoft is currently testing an updated build with help from insiders across the world. No ETA has been provided as to when the rollout could resume.

It is still happening. I know I saw it a few hours before the clocks turned back an hour here in Europe. Not in the pop-up though - when I opened up the old date & time settings IIRC.
