IF YOUR MANAGER is pressuring you to take work home with you, you now have a ready-made excuse as to why that isn't a good idea. Ex-NSA employee Nghia Hoang Pho has been sentenced to five and a half years for taking top-secret defence files home - an act which ultimately saw US secrets being leaked.

 

68-year-old Pho maintained in court that he only took the files home to work on out of the office, with the aim of getting a promotion. If this was the case, it turned out to be a catastrophic error of judgement, as the Kaspersky Lab antivirus software on his computer hoovered up top secret information.

 

Whether the reasoning for that is because the software liked or didn't like what it saw depends on who you believe, with Kaspersky claiming the NSA code was lifted for legitimate security analysis, rather than on behalf of the Russian government. Either way, it triggered a chain reaction which culminated in Kaspersky software being banned from government computers.

 

However the secret information got into the wrong hands, in the court's eyes the root cause was the same. By taking the work home for five years, Pho was nonchalantly risking national security because, unsurprisingly, your off-the-shelf antivirus software isn't quite as effective as the NSA's own solutions.

 

"Removing and retaining such highly classified material displays a total disregard of Pho's oath and promise to protect our nation's national security," said Maryland district attorney Robert Hur.

 "As a result of his actions, Pho compromised some of our country's most closely held types of intelligence, and forced NSA to abandon important initiatives to protect itself and its operational capabilities, at great economic and operational cost."

 

Despite this, the five-and-a-half-year sentence is actually quite a bit lower than the maximum punishment of 10, and even the eight which prosecutors were pushing for. All the same, the moral of the story is don't take your work home with you. It can end very badly.

The US has like 4000 Nukes saying if you try  you  will be sorry. NSA is party of the USA Military.  Stop living in a fantasy  world were it's only the NSA you have to worry about and get with reality ,  getting rid of the NSA wont make you no safer when theirs a 1000 others out there .

I agree with Steve.  You have all world governments, spy agencies, court and prison systems, police, ceos, bank owners.   It's a gangster world. 

 

The only thing the renters of planet earth have as an advantage to our rulers are the numbers.  But we are too divided by race nation religion you name it, distractions from the path of freedom.

all  we can say for sure... everyone tends over simplify the issues as well as only want want to point out the bad  stuff other countries do and pretty much deny OR  justify their countries wrong's and deflect and excuse when they get caught .... not one country plays well in the sand box...ESPECIALLY  the 4 major so called superpowers ...and if you want to really look at the next major 10to 20 adversarial countries in the world...well the ENTIRE world is  PRETTY SCARY  place for the common person on the street in any country...we are all indoctrinated to pretty much not trust and to varying degrees HATE  everything about many other countries... proof of that is right here on this site with responses from all members on past posts about what any one country did to other countries that is at best controversial or at worst acts of war in many cases.... some members want to expose it and call it what is..others want to deny it and deny it either never happened or justify it to say it was some false flag operation.... bottom line our leaders sometimes play us ...yes countries protect their national and best interests but they sometimes just in  word are bad in the ends justify the means attitudes.....been this way since the beginning of time...from tribes to city states to countries to global alliances.... people who lead just sometimes want to rule the world...or at least very  large and expanding chunks of it...all in the name of ....only we have the right doctrine or religion as the rest of the world wants to take it away from us and or kill us so we gotta do it to them first...

Why are you worried  about the NSA?  It's  your own system you should be worried  about because they will throw you under the bus.and vice versa  there's a Judge there fixing to  extradite to  Lithuania. The  two governments seem too work together on crime. If you hacked the USA like the NSA hacks everyone else they  would not give you the death sentence we would give youa few years in jail they would feed you and give you a place too sleep. 

 

How would you like it if the USA put hackers  to death ?  Back in the 1800s they did  if you stole a horse they would hang you . But  in the military witch NSA is part of  killed millions of Indians 50 million to 100 millions and they won and the Union killed 440,000 of there own people from the south and they got rewarded with metals  ...  Only way you going to put anybody to death in the military in our country is go to war with them  in normal circumstances , they are expectations were China has caught  the CIA and killed agents out in the filed in China,  but  there not as friendly  as we are  about  crimes against the government .. But still that is not the NSA. 

 

 

 

Of course no one will destroy them....I just said someone should because they violate many human rights. Why would You bring Lithuania into this topic???  the country is so small and helpless it's even irrelevant and btw is controlled by USA. Why I should not worry about n1 power of the world? I worry about USA, I worry about China, I worry about Russia. I worry about any such Legal criminal activity. It doesn't matter where it's based. And I have an opinion about it, which to You it's idiotic, well so be it.
