Administrator DKT27 Posted October 8, 2009 Administrator Share Posted October 8, 2009 MediaFire tells Mozilla to ban SkipScreen from addons.mozilla.orgMozilla has told us they received a takedown from Mediafire, demanding they pull SkipScreen from addons.mozilla.org.Mozilla gave us about 24 hours (until the end of the west-coast business day today) to respond to some questions about what SkipScreen does, or they said they would remove it from the directory. We’re working on this.More news soon. In the meantime, read the takedown. The EFF wrote our reply to Mozilla, and sent it on our behalf. I think it’s fair to say they think Mediafire’s claims are off-the-wall. Read the reply.Meanwhile, in anticipation of a Mozilla takedown, furtive copies of SkipScreen began appearing on Mediafire.EFF’s Fred von Lohmann has posted a legal analysis explaining why Mediafire’s claims are bogus and putting this in the context of a long running battle (one it’s important the public win). Yet again, the EFF rules.Original Article
BBs
After a user downloads and installs the SkipScreen Addon, she can go to..... SkipScreen to do it for herHahahah it looks like a woman wrote this(she's a man foe) :D :DOr is this SkipScreen just for Girls? OH NO i have to uninstall it :D:D
harpua
Well thanks to this, I found out about this add on and added it to my FF. LOL.
CODYQX4
This is a shame, too, as MediaFire is one of the more generous and respectable hosts. No 2 minute wait, about 2 second wait for me, can download multiple files at once, and doesn't impose any time limit on quantity. This is something I expect of RapidShare (Who suck, BTW), but not MediaFire. Administrator DKT27 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 8, 2009 You are right CODYQX4. The only thing I don't understand is that mediafire has nothin to do with SkipScreen. Mediafire doesn't have and countdown. And as far as I remember there was an request on the SkipScreen forums to stop SkipScreen to work on mediafire as there is no countdown on mediafire. @harpua: This is a must addon. Best of them all IMO.@BBs: Girl or Boy. We use it. :D
harpua
Yeah, I've had it installed for less than an hour and it already has come in very handy. Most excellent little add on. Again, I have to thank Mediafire (and nsane) for bringing it to my attention.

Mediafire doesn't have and countdown. And as far as I remember there was an request on the SkipScreen forums to stop SkipScreen to work on mediafire as there is no countdown on mediafire. Preety much takes 2 seconds to say download file, and clicking it sometimes causes a popup, but no 2 min countdown, like RS.When you need to DL a 200MB file from RS, it takes 2 minutes to countdown, and if you miss it, guess what, a whole other 2 minutes, RS can screw themselves, MediaFire doesn't do that crap, so I can't see why they are shitting bricks over this, its RS that should b*tch and complain about not being able to make people blow their brains out due to frustration of always missing their obscenely long count.MegaUpload used to have a 45 second count, but they ditched it, also they seemed to get rid of limits (I don't kno if they dumped them, but I haven't been cutoff, even after DL ing 4GB, it used to stop me for an hour every 250MB).Most hosts I use have gotten better, but not RS, which I refuse to upload to. I use MU and MF for uploading.
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 8, 2009 Again you are right. Well I asked a site staff on SkipScreen, he said RS sucks from start. When SkipScreen came out RS made the scripts that way, that SkipScreen doesn't work on RS. Or similar.
Pestbest
I love mediafire though. It's simply a very good filesharing site unlike rapidshare or megaupload. I just wish more people would upload to mediafire instead of the other filesharing sites.
shought
I don't think Mediafire actually has any say in this, but I do agree that because they are one of the more generous hosts we should not abuse(if not in your eyes, then be it in their eyes) their service. All you have to do is click Download and all systems are go ;)

Administrator DKT27 Posted October 9, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 9, 2009 I really like mediafire. IMO it's far more better than SkipScreen. Both are really great. But I still feel that mediafire doesn't really need interfere in this addon. Either they should specify what are their losses if people use SkipScreen or they should stop this. CODYQX4
mediafire rocks, even dl managers w/ multiple threads are allowed.. same for hotfile.. now hotfile sadly added captcha.. if it's 'cos of skipscreen, then i say nuke skipscreen. I rmember RS had captcha.I boycotted it because I couldn't read those G** D*** CATS!They replaced it with a wait time that increased based on file size, but if you missed the DL, you wait the whole time again (2 minutes for 200 MB).They used to have wait time AND captcha. And yes, MF lets you get multiple streams, while RS breaks it. Also if you use multiple streams with a premium account it multiplies the bandwidth by streams. A premium account used to be unrestricted, now they delete your files every 90 days and you only get 5GB per day, which can become less than one because it RAPES you for using multiple streams. These are paying customers, might I add. I had to but a premium account once just to download Logic & Final Cut Studio (Large, expensive Mac Apps that with all content, together equal almost 100GB or storage on my USB HDD). I thought I'd get it all in one day. I used 20 of 30 days getting that stuff.RS should be shot, and people who upload there, I beg you to find alternatives, they are scum that rape and cheat even the hands that feeds them
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 10, 2009 Yea RS really sucks. But sometimes people are not happy downloadin with other mirrors. They feel its "more" better if they download from RS. Well I cannot ague, that is why when I make a software thread, I always have two links one Mediafire and one rapidshare. Now I tend to understand, SkipScreen keeps people concentrated on sites like RS. And mediafire is not happy with it.
JessicaLeigh
I had no idea this add-on even existed! Naturally, I immediately added it into my browser as an add-on, and then ran a FEBE backup, to boot. ;) Honestly, why would anyone bother with the other browsers out there? I will FOREVER be a Firefox user.
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 10, 2009 It's one of the best addons I have used. The others are Video Download Helper and Tab Mix Plus.I'll use FF till it's on top. That would be for next 5-10 years. ;)

A person with a RS premium account who sustains it with people DLing their stuff are gonna dump all they got on RS and nothing else (unless they have a premium account at the mirror). This keeps the hosting bastards large and fat, and since this adds to their traffic, they slap on restrictions.
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 10, 2009 It's good that I'm not havin RS premium account and my files get deleted every 90 without downloadin. You right we should boycott RS like site.
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 10, 2009 Update:Skipscreen safe, for now!Mozilla has said they won’t cave to Mediafire’s takedown request. This is so the right answer, and it’s what we expected from an organization as dedicated to defending the web as Mozilla (we just got a bit of a fright for a second there :) )It’s also comforting that a second group of lawyers from an established organization (one with a lot more on the line than us) have looked into Mediafire’s cease and desist and consider it toothless.Mediafire still could come after us directly. But I think with the press they’ve already generated, they’re realizing that the more they come after us, the more people will hear about Skipscreen, and love it. (Which also suggests a plan: the best way to defend Skipscreen is for all our supporters to spread the word in as many places as they can). It’s a good day for Firefox extensions that push hard to put you in control of the web.Original Article
