Recommended Posts

Hi I'm having a problem. When I double click adobe flash cs4 setup.exe which i downloaded as a trial, the setup.exe wouldn't open for some reason no matter what i try. This is the first time I'm having problems installing cs4 and I hope someone can help me. By the way, the process "setup.exe" will be found on task manager but the window won't open.

Running ESET Smart Security and ran scans but no viruses found other than a false positive(Adobe CS4 keygen) and the installer can't be corrupt cause I tried the trial of flash I downloaded from Adobe and a Master Collection Trial I downloaded from the internet and in both, the setup.exe don't work. I tried starting services Application Management and Windows Installer but only Windows Installer opens successfully and Application Management gets error when trying to be started. Is this linked?

Ty for your reply though and for trying to help.

Knowing your system specs would be nice to.

But

Try the Cleanup script If you have/had a older version installed.

Also try installing it with a normal boot:

1. Choose Start > Run, type msconfig, and click OK.

2. Choose Normal Startup on the General tab, click OK, and restart the computer.

OR

A silent Install

GL ;)

Go to Microsoft Update ( Not Windows Update ) and check for any additional updates concerning Windows Installer.. Make sure you have done all updates and you meet all system requirement of the Flash CS4 installation first..

I would make sure you have uninstalled any previous versions ( as these will not update anyway )..Shred or delete any remaining or accompanying folder and files related to any previous installations in all areas of your system folder structure.. Adobe is notorious for leaving crap behind everywhere.. especially with older versions.. Then I would use Windows Installer Cleanup available through Microsoft..remove any installer related to the particular Adobe installation you are trying to perform.. Then do a registry cleaning and defrag.. Reboot as you need to after the defrag.. Try the install again..

If this does not work you may have to address Group Policy, and SRP.. also with Pro you may need to be in the correct account with the adequate permissions to do so.. reason to check Group Policy or Security Policy Management.. Which can effect the correct authorization to install. Not recommended to change these aspects for LUA or other accounts..as you my open holes in system security hen doing so.

None of the methods work, Thanks for the help but I think I will perform a clean install of Windows sometime soon and that should solve my problem.

XP SP3 should not have this problem.

Is .net framework installed?

And what error did you get for application management?

ESET Smart Security can't be disabled. I can only turn off Real Time Protection and Firewall. I do have .net framework 3.5
