37? wow, I don't recalling using more than 10 at any time, half of which are only cosmetic :P

Three of mine are cosmetic..and none of which are technically skin related...The rest are all a part of my tools.. carefully researched and studied to not be something I can edit myself..or which have better capability..

I tried this and it didn't really seem to make much of a difference, at least nothing I could notice, but my FF booted fast anyway ;)

Well for what its may be worth to you; the program is an operational optimization, not for the speed of loading/retrieving resources or the emulations of that part of the program. It cleans up the database files for the profile you are using...Several things can effect this part of FF's structure and code base..This can speed operational response times to various things like the 'awesome bar' start up time and a few other areas. Kind of the same way cleaning out your preferences files of invalid/improperly installed extensions. so that he program wastes time looking for them..With some browsers and users this can help a great deal.. The first time I used my extension for Vacuum Places Improved.. I noticed a difference in response time in a few places.. I also noticed a slight increase in start up..

To me it seems like a useful tool to have anyway..

Maybe this is an old story that some of you already know.

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Cheers

that sounds good but drains more bandwidth from the page your trying to view - EG this forum. *in some cases some major sites bann if you try to pull to many connections*

Well, can you suggest "safe" values?

For any of those who would like to simply have an extension with access to all network options..There are several versions of the Fasterfox extension..This one is the most recent version..but have two suggest-able versions..

1. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14833 - This one I have been using for a few days and seems to be quite a nice job..

2. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9148 - This one has been out for quite a while.. was using it before..

NEWS:

Expect A Faster Firefox 3.6 Beta Next Week

The Mozilla Firefox developers are planning to release the first beta of the upcoming web browser Firefox 3.6 next week (to be precise on October 14 which is also the release date for the beta of Firefox 3.5.4). Not that many Firefox users will take notice of these two beta version releases but those that do will notice performance improvements in Firefox 3.6 beta. The Mozilla team is not only concentrating on the usual options to increase the web browser’s performance (that is JavaScript mainly) but also performance of the web browser in general which would include loading times and responsiveness.

The guys at Betanews have tested the latest alpha release version of Firefox 3.6 and came to the conclusion that the new version increases performance by 22.8% compared to the latest official release version Firefox 3.5.3. This performance does not come near the performance of Webkit based browsers yet but it shows dedication to close the gap between the browsers.

Ok, I have done it. Because of my slow netbook speed, I decided to put FF and other important programs on a ram disk. FF now starts cold in 7 seconds with all my extensions. Without the ram disk, it starts on average 45 seconds. Don't worry, I have 1.5 GB of ram and my netbook never yet went above 1 GB. So in my case, it was a good use of ram. I'm going to do this on my other old and slow PCs.

SuperSpeed doesn't work in Windows 7...though if you found one that is working in 7, I would be very interested.

Well this may be because 7 is looking to the future when basically all you have is a RAMDIsk.. Liiiike an SSD..But yeah its one of those things that require loading stuff and drivers at startup.. Thing is... I don't remember SuperSpeed even supporting Vista.. I bet someone out there will come across something.. and they will build it and they will come.. as they say.

This is off topic but SuperSpeed Ram Disk Plus 10 works on Win7.
