I wish they would state what the user dependant settings were. Just using Windows Defender seems to be good enough outside of some "User dependant" results. So what they are saying, is if a specific setting is changed, it would have ranked up right next to Bitdefender, Avira, etc. Seems a bit unfair imo - to just use default settings for every AV to test with, given the fact that they all have different default settings. Shouldn't they be set to all match each other as closely as possible... THEN do the testing?

You are absolutely right: Windows Defender 2018 is top antivirus. It has some performance impact but if read performance test results thoroughly, you see that Windows Defender haven't any performance issue in browsing and using web at all. So it depends your use if you see any performance impact.

As I have said before, almost all those AVs score really well, even those who are behind in that list are still quite good there.
