Administrator DKT27 Posted October 1, 2009 Administrator Share Posted October 1, 2009 Dinosaur eggs are found in IndiaThe find has been likened to the discovery of a treasure troveGeologists in southern India say they have found hundreds of dinosaur egg clusters which could be about 65 million years old.It was a chance find discovered when a team of scientists were locating a place to excavate an ancient riverbed in the state of Tamil Nadu.As they dug deeper they saw layers of what looked like fossilised eggs. The photos and samples were then sent to various universities who confirmed that they were dinosaur eggs. Each egg is the size of a football - about 13 to 23cm in diameter, lying buried in sandy nests. The leader of the team, MU Ramkumar, told the BBC the finding is significant and could help to unravel the mystery about the extinction of dinosaurs.'Infertile'"The important finding is that these eggs have been found in different layers that means the dinosaurs came to the place over and over year after year," he said. "The second important thing is that we have got volcanic ash deposits on the eggs which suggests that volcanic activity could have caused their extinction."The other thing we have found is that all these eggs are unhatched and infertile. So what made the eggs infertile? We need to carry out further studies to learn more from the findings."Scientists believe the eggs belong to the docile leaf-eating Sauropod branch of dinosaurs. Their remains have been dug up on every continent, including Antarctica.Palaeontologists use the term to describe large, four-legged, plant-eating dinosaurs with bulky bodies, long necks and tails and tiny heads with relatively small brains.Dr Ramkumar and his team have called on the central and state governments to protect what they are calling a "Jurassic treasure trove".The presence of dinosaur eggs was first recorded in the same district by a British geologist in the 1860s. In the 1990s a dinosaur egg was found in a government-owned factory in the state. Source
Administrator Lite Posted October 1, 2009 Administrator Share Posted October 1, 2009 I wonder if they would have made a good omelette? On a serious note: Its good to find things about the past. I guess it is important to find out how to avoid issues in the future.
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 1, 2009 Well Indians are usually vegetarians, and here eggs are counted as non-veg, so no omelette. ;)On the second paragraph, I truly agree with you. I know some may say it's no use to live in past. But, we learn our mistakes from past, so, lets dig them. :P

But my grandma still lives in Mahim so I just visit there in every two months or so.Mahim was always a very busy area with a shanty town, a very large mosque & now the new (to me) massive flyover. Are you now in New Bombay or more towards Santa Cruz/ Bhorivali suburb of Bombay ? But I can see it clearly from my grandma's place. ;)I myself stay at a better part of kandivali west that is just before Borivali.I Have been to kandivali & to Borivali, where one of our very good old family friend lives/lived, long time ago. Use to travel all the way up to Virar. These parts must be well developed now as an extension of Bombay.Yes Bandra-Worli sealink is good, used it when travelling to Peddar Road from & back to the airport. I use to know Bombay very well & was quite street wise, use to know all the landmarks, both good & bad & of course all the cinemas in town, including B & C rated ones - if you know what I mean.B)I am fortunate to love & belong to two countries, Bombay-India is my Motherland & London-England is my Fatherland, that's the way I see it.I follow the Indian cricket team & England's football team, went to see the India v/s England 20/Twenty World Cup match this year at Lords - we played badly (India) & we won (England).

Whole Shiv Sena, MNS, Congress has made it a political issue. In-spite of stayin in Mumbai, I don't know or haven't visited all landmarks. Well I'm just 16. ;)Good you had chance to see a cricket match live. :(

The politicians are narrow minded Nationalists - but not always doing the good for the nation - & brain washers, it's what gives them power - like the rats following the Pied Piper. What next, the Bharat Cricket Team? :unsure:Hey!, you say you are just 16 but that's the best time to explore before you get caught-up in the adults rat race, then you won't have time only responsibilities so got out & enjoy your city, I did.
