The BlackBerry Key2 was leaked extensively recently and now it's finally official, coming as a KeyONE successor with notable upgrades.

The new BlackBerry Key2 retains the same form factor of its predecessor, sporting a square-ish design, but marks a first for a BlackBerry smartphone: it boasts a dual rear camera setup.

BlackBerry Key2 With Dual Rear Cameras

Dual rear cameras have been gaining ground recently and an increasing number of smartphones now feature two cameras on the back. The Key2 is ready to join the trend with a 12-megapixel sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, and a telephoto lens with a f/2.6 aperture.

The telephoto lens comes in handy when capturing portraits with a bokeh effect (defocused background), as well as for photos with optical zoom.

The smartphone features a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels and a 3:2 aspect ratio, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, and 6 GB of RAM.

Die-hard BlackBerry fans will be happy to know that the Key2 has a physical keyboard, which blends nicely with its Series 7 aluminum frame and a smooth rear case with a diamond pattern finish.

The slim bezels allowed BlackBerry to boost the physical keyboard height be 20%, which in turn should enable more typing accuracy and comfort. The space key hosts a fingerprint scanner, just as expected.

A new Speed Key, meanwhile, allows users to set shortcuts for various apps and open them quickly with a long press. For instance, setting Instagram as a shortcut for the "I" key will open the app when long-pressing "I."

Most Advanced BlackBerry Smartphone Ever

Alain Lejeune, SVP of TCL communication and President of BlackBerry Mobile, highlights that while there is a slew of smartphones currently available on the market, most of them offer a similar experience without standing out from the crowd.

"With the introduction of BlackBerry KEY2, we've created a distinct smartphone that captures all the traits that have made BlackBerry smartphones iconic, while introducing new innovations and experiences that not only make this one of the best devices for security and privacy, but also the most advanced BlackBerry smartphone ever," boasts Lejeune.

BlackBerry Key2 Privacy And Security

BlackBerry has always put great emphasis on privacy and security, and things are no different with the Key2. Security apps include Locker and Dtek, as well as Locker Mode preinstalled.

Dtek offers details about security and the operating system, as well as the permissions that are given to each app. Moreover, Dtek can also detect if an app acts oddly, and alert the user.

The Locker mode, meanwhile, allows users to safely store their fingerprint-protected files, as well as private apps. The Locker mode initially debuted as an exclusive to the BlackBerry Motion, it then hit the BlackBerry KeyONE late last year, and it's now preloaded on the Key2. It also grants access to Mozilla's private browser, called Firefox Focus.BlackBerry Key2 Privacy

The BlackBerry Key2 will get monthly Android security updates and at least one major OS update, so the upcoming Android P will be a given.

The smartphone will go on sale in June at $649. For more information, visit the official BlackBerry Key2 product page.
