Matrix
The bill comes amid an encryption debate that pits national security against cybersecurity. State and local governments would be barred from passing and implementing laws that undermine encryption under a federal bill introduced by a bipartisan quartet of House lawmakers Thursday. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., among others, would effectively supersede any state or local law that required manufacturers to build surveillance tools into their products or to ensure customer communications or other activities could be decrypted. The Ensuring National Constitutional Rights for Your Private Telecommunications, or ENCRYPT, Act was also sponsored by Reps. Mike Bishop, R-Mich., Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. Lieu introduced an earlier version of the bill in 2016, which never reached a committee vote. That bill came soon after the FBI tried to compel Apple to help it crack into an encrypted iPhone used by San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook. An inspector general’s report later found the FBI did not pursue less extreme paths before taking Apple to court. That drew the ire of many cybersecurity- and privacy-focused lawmakers. The FBI has argued since 2014 that end-to-end encryption systems, which shield customer communications from everyone except the sender and recipient, damage national security and allow terrorists and criminals to “go dark” online. Cybersecurity and privacy advocates argue that any effort to allow law enforcement special access to encrypted communication could be exploited by criminal hackers, making consumers less secure. So far, encryption advocates have generally carried the day in Congress. “Any discussion of encryption and law enforcement access to data needs to happen at the federal level,” Lieu said in a statement. “As a computer science major, I can tell you that having 50 different mandatory state-level encryption standards is bad for security, consumers, innovation, and ultimately law enforcement,” he added. The bill was endorsed by several industry associations and by the New America think tank’s Open Technology Institute, which advocates on cybersecurity and privacy protections. source
straycat19
What a joke. This bill is coming from a senator from the state of California which is currently ignoring federals laws on drugs and immigration. So that just goes to show that no matter what a federal law says, states can and will make their own laws anyway.

Lucky for me I dont live in such a state, not all states are liberal states, we pretty much go with the flow here . If you have no green card around here we will send you back to were you come from and neighborhood watch will turn you in and if you need any weed you have to buy it illegal off the street. 1 thing a state needs to pass new laws is for everyone to be on the same side and it will never happen here It dont matter so who is elected here because it takes a joint effort. Nothing never changes around here unless the Federal Govt makes it change. I use to take my seatbelt off when I crossed the state line back in the day we didn't have that tell they made us use one long after other states enforced it we didn't get it tell it became federal law . Even the crack dealers go to church around here every Sunday because nothing never changes and it's the way they was raised. I can predict what people do around here before they do it . Only reason i'm different i lived all over the USA before.

When you have horrible, pointless unhumanitarian laws coming from the Feds as we have today, it is best to do everything in your power to counteract them. You're state was one of the states that help put him in there so you have no room to talk. dhjohns
Delaware went very much for Clinton, and there was no voter fraud. There was actually no voter fraud anywhere.

Trump blamed it on the FBI .

You can't just go investigating every time Trump invents something. The whole thing was bull crap and this whole voter fraud thing is trying to disenfranchise legitimate voters, e.g. black people. Everything about this current administration is based on white fear of losing power. It is horrible.

dhjohns
So you don't live in the U.S. then. Last I heard we have lots of jobs here in America. Oh one more thing. No one sends jobs to China. That is just crazy talk. Business always looks for the least expensive way to produce a product. It has been this way since the invention of sailing vessels. Look the jobs here started at in the early 19th century lasted trough 2 world wars and even in the great depression we had jobs when no one else did and all it took was one idiot to sign a pice of paper to allow the rich to do as they wanted. so i was not about to vote for his crooked wife and i rest my case, you heard. well you heard wrong and don't have a clue about the rural parts of the USA . Things have never improved at all since he signed that free trade crap in. The 21st century has been all down hill. Even when i lived up north in a rural area it was the same way everything had shut down almost and was made somewhere else. Once it goes away it never comes back unless it's forced too. You City Slickers need to get with reality. Clinton added 21.5 million jobs in return lost 14 million jobs when he signed free trade that he did not create . Most of the jobs he created were not manufacturing jobs they were flipping burgers making minium wage. All the job that he lost were manufacturing jobs . In rural areas there is not many places that flip burgers stores and shops closed down when the jobs left , millions moved away and found jobs in the city's are was lucky enough find a job .Were still 7.5 million plus 5.7 million part time who need full time in the hole. Quote The main negative effect of outsourcing is it increases U.S. unemployment. The 14 million outsourced jobs are almost double the 7.5 million unemployed Americans. If all those jobs returned, it would be enough to also hire the 5.7 million who are working part-time but would prefer full-time positions. https://www.thebalance.com/how-outsourcing-jobs-affects-the-u-s-economy-3306279
