Administrator DKT27 Posted September 29, 2009 Administrator Share Posted September 29, 2009 Mozilla VP: Chrome Frame is the wrong answerGoogle Wave is one site that suggests IE users install Google Chrome Frame.Mozilla and Microsoft don't always see eye to eye when it comes to browser technology, but they agree broadly on one thing: thumbs down for Google Chrome Frame.Chrome Frame is a plug-in that puts Google's browser engine under the hood of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and Google argues that it can modernize IE versions 6, 7, and 8 with faster page loading and JavaScript performance. It kicks in only on Web pages that Web developers have labeled with a specific tag. After Google announced it, Microsoft criticized it as creating a potentially increased risk to browsing security. Mike Shaver, vice president of engineering for Firefox backer Mozilla, published a different concern in a blog post Monday night."I certainly share that longing for a Web in which the vast majority of Web users enjoy the performance and capabilities we see in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Opera. Unfortunately, I don't think that Chrome Frame gets us closer to that Web," Shaver said.Specifically, Shaver said Chrome Frame can disable IE features and muddle users' understanding of Web security matters. And users of the reviled IE 6 browser, he added, often won't be able to run Chrome Frame anyway because their computer is locked down to prohibit changes or lacks sufficient power in the first place."As a side effect, the user's understanding of the Web's security model and the behavior of their browser is seriously hindered by delegating the choice of software to the developers of individual sites they visit. It is a problem that we have seen repeatedly with other stack plug-ins like Flash, Silverlight and Java, and not one that I think we need to see replayed again under the banner of HTML5," he said.Shaver's advice is to rely on that ages-old technique: an upgrade suggestion on the Web site."It would be better for the Web if developers who want to use the Chrome Frame snippet simply told users that their site worked better in Chrome and instructed them on how to install it," Shaver said. "The user would be educated about the benefits of an alternate browser, would understand better the choice they were making, and the kudos for Chrome's performance would accrue to Google rather than to Microsoft." RadioActive
I tend to agree, when I first read about it I thought it was an odd move, instead of trying to "fix" IE, I believe they should concentrate on their own browser (Chrome) and improve because (I believe) it still needs lots of work before it can replace more capable browsers such as Firefox and Opera, at least for power users. HX1
Yeah see I still..even with the capability to anonymize Chrome I don't like to use it because its is using an older version of the Webkit..and it still has the ability to report statistics.. I don't know.. I found a really good theme for it..Black Matte.. which helped a little but I still.. I just feel odd about using it..Its odd it just reminds of something you let a girl ( everyone excuse me with this .. I mean nothing by it ) but it reminds me of a program you give a very young teenage girl to simply browse the intenet.. you know the one who is still all about their friends. phone in one hand key board in the other..They are not concerned with how it works.. just that its cute...and ' It just goes all together .. I dunno.. '.. anybody follow me.. For me it has to be like working on a 1200 HP Hypercar.. I have to know how many turns any random bolt .. right down to the chassis has in it .. how far I can be away from that and how much farther I can go with it..I also have to know how I can reconfigure the whole thing to do something completely different..Like FF3.. even IE8...I have more options with my eyes closed to configure it..I mean if I had to choose between a webkit based version browser.. Safari, Chrome, or Iron...I think I would go with I think I would choose Iron..In fact I am debating on removing Chrome all together...BUT there is NO WAY. that damn thing is going to be jacked in to anything else.. Administrator DKT27 Posted September 30, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted September 30, 2009 I think, if Chrome is not able to help us config it properly like other browsers offer, they should still keep their browser in Beta.

Administrator DKT27 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted October 1, 2009 NP.I somehow feel that Chrome has now stepped out of the line by doin this. They are good. Their browser is somewhat good. But this time they have not done anything good.
Bizarre™
If Google Chrome supports Firefox plugins, then I would gladly convert :P

HX1
Actually I would disagree with that.. if you hit the dev site for Firefox and track what has been going on with it.. one of the reason the 3.5 version is slower is because of a re-work of some of its internal components for speed and moving towards HTML5..I really don't think Firefox has anything to fear nor any endangerment of losing its supporters.. The thing is and if you look at Safari and Webkit based browsers, is that they become VERY bulky, heavy, and buggy when it comes to trying to add on various things..FF's platform and basis of its structure lends it to very malleable changes..it also does quite well for itself...3.6 focuses on a different layer of performance improvements and customizing.. and even now in the Alpha stages, it shows improvements .. some of which will unlock changes done in 3.5.. Like my previous statement Chrome is ONLY a browser... FF is every application you want it to be.. and it does have the capability to out run Chrome.. To me Opera and Chrome are both good.. yet the speed and accuracy.. mainly the stability is just not there yet...
