Judge Upholds U.S. Ban on Russian Cyber Security Software

A Washington, D.C. court has dismissed two lawsuits filed by the Moscow-based computer security company Kaspersky Labs that sought to overturn a U.S. ban on Kaspersky software within U.S.  government networks.

In a written ruling Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly upheld a law requiring federal agencies to identify and purge Kaspersky code from U.S. networks by October 1 of this year. The judge also rejected Kaspersky’s argument that the Department of Homeland Security exceeded its authority in ordering a similar ban last September.

“The United States government’s networks and computer systems are extremely important strategic national assets,” wrote Kollar-Kotelly in a 55-page opinion. “Threats to these systems are constantly expanding and evolving. Their security depends on the government’s ability to act swiftly against perceived threats and to take preventive action to minimize vulnerabilities.” “These defensive actions may very well have adverse consequences for some third-parties,” the judge continued. “But that does not make them unconstitutional.” Both bans were enacted in response to long-simmering concerns over Kaspersky Labs’ links to Russia’s intelligence community, and fears that the company could be compelled under Russian law to weaponize their code to spy on U.S. government networks.

... Kaspersky better ...

Undoubtedly!

Let's ask:

Which is the most wanted AV -- for free -- in this forum -- by this hook or that crook?   ;)

Would anyone in his(her) right mind spend so much time and effort looking for a AV-which-can-hack your PC on your PC?

Talking and walking the talk are two different things.  Hence unless one walks the talk, let him/her here not badmouth:

Eh?  ;)

Kaspersky is crying over a bottle of spilled milk when they have a whole diary.

Quote

On Wednesday, Judge Kollar-Kotelly sided with Congress. The ban against Kaspersky Lab merely closes off "one small source of revenue," for a large multinational company with clients across the world, she wrote. According to Kaspersky Lab's own data, the vendor held less than $54,000 in active licenses with US federal agencies in 2016.

Yes, absolute proof is impossible.

But, pray tell us what are you calling "crap" and why?  Thank you.

(Also, Kaspersky-ban is political; the US government suspects (or knows?) that Kaspersky and Russian government are closely tied (in bed together).  This seems to be the root cause of the ban and other reasons are mere reasons. Hence the never-ending arguments about proof, etc.)

CRAP= anything posted here that causes discord between members...aka this post is crap because if we allow it to keep going it will get out of hand really fast and cause bad feelings among members

First, much thanks for responding.

[The dictionary says: noun

  1. Vulgar.
    1. excrement.
    2. an act of defecation.
  2. Slang: Sometimes Vulgar.
    1. nonsense; drivel.
    2. falsehood, exaggeration, propaganda, or the like.
  3. refuse; rubbish; junk; litter: Will you clean up that crap!]

What is there to fear about discord?  Is there any family on earth without discord?  Any neighborhood?  Town?  City?  Province?  Country?

So must families, towns, countries, and the democratic system (opposition parties)  itself CRAP?

Who has bad feelings?  Is calling anything "crap" contribute towards good feelings?

Do problems go always by burying our heads in sand?

Thank you.

crap like that posted here will kill this site...if you really wish to have discord about anything there are tons of sites that encourage it... this is a site designed to encourage different stuff than more fighting

All discord is ended with friendly and respectful communication.

Unfortunately we repeat -- ad nauseam -- our biases without engaging  in a meaningful dialog.

All complaining and finger pointing, therefore, is a waste of time.

Cheers!  :drunk:
