NOD32 v2.51.20

My first post :-)

I have some questions here for NOD32 v2.51.20 and some ideas too...

Let me tell ya my story...

Basically I have been using norton antivirus since early 2001 for very good and proven reasons. Over the years I have always found the latest version of norton and had no problem using it but when NAV2006 was released it had a more aggressive serial and activation system which to date can somewhat be beaten but has problems. Basically the way I was using it was with the same serial that I have given to all my friends that I installed it for and as a result would expire whenever more than one person with that same serial would try to update their antivirus defs and the same time. Since I found that serial on limewire it is probably being used by thousands of people and they all have the same problem eventually too... the product expires:-(

This expiration crap is very annoying and all my friends call me every time their NAV expires. I'm sick of screwing around with that mess and also I think that the activation portion of norton is a BIG weakness because I have seen some viruses exploit the activation crap with NAV2005 so they can infect the computer without any response from norton. I'm sure this will happen again with NAV2006 eventually and that is something I'm trying to avoid by using some other software that doesn't have some sort of activation crap built in.

So all this trouble with norton brings me to the web looking for alternatives and I have been keeping up with some of the more popular alternatives for years now but I've always been a big norton fan since it has saved my arse many times in the past however, it's clear to me that norton will continue to get more and more silly with this activation mess so I have to use something else. Enter NOD32... I like it but it has a nagging activation problem too:-(

I tried the trial version and found some reg file on shareazaa that allowed me to get 40k years for the trial period but it quickly reverts back to 30 days so that got me searching for access to the commercial version and I found that. Unfortunately it appears that eventually the user and pass will expire as usual for this commercial version and that means no more updates. Now of course I could just reload the reg file or use the fix that nsane has made but my friends who are all pc illiterate will never figure out how to do that everytime the stupid crap expires so I am searching for a solution for myself and them too.

I tried using the evaluation server only as an update server but it sends me the evaluation version updates and changes my commercial version of NOD32 to the 30 day trial lol.

I have read the forum posts here and found the info posted by nsane about how his fix works but I know that ESET will just keep finding a way to override it. Here are some theories to consider for why ESET would do just that...

When using the update section fo NOD32 it shows everything it's downloading, watch it as it downloads a file called expire.rar, I tried searching for this file using windows search tool but it can't be found. I think this is because it's deleted as soon as it's downloaded and read by NOD32. I think this particular file is what NOD32 uses to check on the commercial version and the remaining days of the trial version.

Theory A

Expire.rar is a database of invalid user and pass that is checked against the program when read and if the user and pass your using is on that list it's expired so no more updates.

Theory B

Same as above but also it contains an updated registry info to keep you from continuing to use that 40k years trick.

My questions...

Why hasn't anyone made a keygen for norton 2006? the serial is similar to norton 2005 it's just longer and more complicated. It's clear that norton doesn't verify the serial in NAV06 just like they didn't in NAV05 if it has a correct phone activation code. I think more people especially keygen writers are moving away from norton because they like other programs.

Why hasn't anyone made a keygen for NOD32? My only guess for that is because all user and pass for NOD32 are kept on a list at ESET servers and if a user and pass isn't on that list it's invalid no matter what even if it's generated. As a result of this NOD32 might have the same problem as NAV2006 where if more than one person is trying to update at the same time the user and pass info is made invalid and the person who actually bought their copy of NOD32 can't update and calls in to ESET and gets a new user and pass over the phone through email etc.

Are the evaluation and commorcial versions of NOD32 v2.51.20 the same since the commercial version can take the eval version updates?

Bottom line

I want to find a solution to this activation crap with NOD32 that is equal to what I had with norton 2005, in other words it would always update and just keep working not try to validate itself all the dam time. Can someone help me with this???????

there is none, my fix is the only thing atm, besides hunting down passwords every 3 days...tho it should continue working for a long time from now. and should be easilly fixable if they fix my fix method (say that 3 times fast). it'd be good for with 1 time installs, shouldn't have a prob, since actual program components are usually just updated with new builds any ways (i haven't had 1 trial reset yet...been going for 3+ months on this fix version now) ;)

actually, NOD32 3.0 is due out here in the next few months...expect a fix of course...
