Help to create optimized version of Windows 10 for old Acer One Netbooks with Intel Atom N450 / 1.66 GHz processors

Forget about Win10 it is not for your toy. Your Netbook will run Win7 x86 fine, do not use a newer Windows OS or it will be very slow. By the way Gandalf 's Win10PEx86 is a PE not an OS (PE= Preinstallation Environment).

Or you may try a Linux OS, I have installed this on low specs hardward and it works very fine Linux Lite, and you don't miss Windows: https://www.linuxliteos.com/

REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS:

CPU: 700MHz processor

RAM: 512mb ram

STORAGE: 8gb

RESOLUTION: VGA screen 1024x768 resolution

MEDIA: DVD drive or USB port for the ISO image

PREFERRED SPECIFICATIONS:

CPU: 1.5GHz processor

RAM: 1024mb ram

STORAGE: 20gb

RESOLUTION: VGA, DVI or HDMI screen 1366x768

MEDIA: DVD drive or USB port for the ISO image

Now I see min resolution is 1024x768 better check max resolution available on your Netbook I think it is not capable of 1024x768.

Just keep it on Windows 7 Pro..

Windows 10 will not work for you

Windows 10 will work, and is faster than Windows 7 Pro on these machines.  This is from personal experience.  The best thing to do with this machine, and any machines is to put in an SSD, and max out the memory.

You may also try Puppy Linux (I sugest a 32 bits version): http://puppylinux.com/

I have been playing with it, booting from an USB stick and it looks fine and very light. As you can see there are several versions, try them on an USB and find the one that better fit your needs.

You can use AIO Boot to make your USB, see my post here:

Try MicroXP or Micro2003 from Exper1ence (can be found on piratebay)

The only downside is some apps won't install on system older than Win7 (Google Chrome), but all the essentials like WinRAR, K-Lite Codec Pack, Firefox/Opera, etc... work.

Everything is right, but it costs a lot more than a new laptop that already has this all and maybe even more.

Probably US $50 or less on Amazon.com.

I have worked with many old computers. For anything with a higher than 1GB RAM you can install Windows 7 or even Windows 8.1.

The problem is not whether it can be install or not, but this, what you can do with it  if is installed. He's just so slow or freezes all the time and even the most primitive web pages can not be opened. Not to mention anything else.

For example You can't even watch any YouTube video or listen simple mp3.

What You do with such a computer?

Only two stones helps, one put under and and the other... I think, You know where to put.

The processor is crap and Intel so its one of them integrated jobs  it from 2009 back when i tried windows 7 on a Atom from back then i could not play above 480p x264  with it ,Windows 7 would run on it but was never happy with it. you can try Linux on it  it may be OK but don't expect much out of it. You be better off buying a  cheap laptop or tower  with windows 8.1 or Windows 10 on. it

Did it look I asked you fanboy?  Windows 10 don't run good on shit in my book  . You install a new version of Windows 10 every 6 months with a new set of bugs and it takes them 3 months to get the bugs out of it, only version worth a crap is LTSB  . I stop using Windows 10 after RS 3  and went back to Windows 8.1 have fun chasing updates like a Crack Head do Crack rocks.    Even on my Dell mini witch has a much newer processor and was Windows 8.1 upgrade to Windows 10  on the box  Windows 8.1 runs better than Windows 10 and Linux runs best on it .:tooth:

Don't pester me with your issues.  Obviously I know how to install Windows 10 on these laptops, and you don't.  LTSB does not offer any improvements over Pro, and it is very limiting with features.  I have installed both on old netbooks with diminutive processors, and 2 GB RAM, and there is no difference.   LTSB isn't really worth a crap, and if you have bugs with new releases that is your problem because I do not.  You may call me a fan boy, but I just report from experience.  Lots of it.  Perhaps you should try installing ServerRDSH.  That may run better.  I am working on a version now.

I wouldn't know if you have bugs  bugs on newer versions  or do i really care , ,you must not can read very well,  i don't use windows 10 anymore . Just like I've not used a computer with 2 gb of ram since 2012. Even  the cheapest computers you can buy come with at lest 4 gb now days .  i got a PC with vista from 2009  that came with 4 GB  of RAM 4 Cores  i upgraded to Windows 7 upgraded to Windows 10 rolled back to Windows 7 and its never been reformatted since 2009. :tooth:

It has already been established from the opening post that Windows 10 is SLOW..

He was looking for some tweaks to make it faster on the OS and Software side..

I guess OP failed to make it tolerable because he ignored the HARDWARE UPGRADE option..maybe he is doubting whether that additional cost will benefit him.

Right.  Any OS will be slow on this hardware, but Windows 10 will work faster than other Windows.  The additional cost which is minimal will benefit him, and anyone else in this situation.  Like I said previously, I am not guessing or surmising here, I am relying on personal experience.  Windows 10 has a lighter footprint, and works better, just like on regular computers.

No its you're problem because you the one  who uses it, i'm happy with what i run,  you the one who thinks you should shout it from the roof tops use windows 10 .  I use windows 8.1 and Linux witch not hardly many people use , i could less if you use windows 10 if it works OK for you. But the OP must have a problem with installing windows 10 or he would of not of asked for some striped down version of Windows 10. Any of my PCs i have now will Windows 10 if i wanted to run it,  i just chose not too that's a big difference .:P

I don't have any problems.  I also don't run striped, dotted or paisley Windows.  I don't even care about witches, either from the east or west.  I am on the latest build 17692, and it is fast, and furious.  Better than anything I have ever used.  I have used them all.  This is not my first rodeo.  I am not trying to tell you what to do.  I am just letting the OP know that I have had a netbook with the hardware of his, and what I did.  It worked really great with Windows 10.  That is all.  Don't continue to take it personally.  Do what you want I do not care.  :)

It may work  with the registry hack for the screen resolution. But still i It's an old and slow processor so any thing you do that requires any CPU  will bring it to it's knees . I would even wish it on no one to have to use it..  I done been there and hated it .

The Intel Atom N450 is a small and cheap entry level CPU for Netbooks and small laptops. In the package is an integrated memory controller for DDR2 main memory and the GMA 3150 graphics card.

The performance of the whole system (Atom N450 and integrated GMA 3150) is only sufficient for basic tasks like surfing the web, or office working. HD video, video cutting, advanced photo editing, multitasking and of course gaming may overstrain the GPU and CPU. Compared to the previous Atom generation, the performance gain is only marginally above a similar clocked Atom N280 / GMA 950. To decode HD videos in 1080p the N450 / GMA3150 needs the help from a additional chip like the the ION2 or Broadcom video decoder.

Correct.  It is really only good for web browsing, and checking facebook or email.
