O&O Defrag 12 (latest version) is excellent, imo.

I just wanted to say that I have been testing this defragmentation program since it was first made available here as a trial version (and now there is a keygen posted for it) and it is one of the apps listed on the front page and deservedly so. I think this is about the best defrag app I have yet used. It's extremely easy to set up automatically, it monitors in the background constantly keeping your disk fragmentation to less than about 0.5% and most importantly, unlike say, Perfect Disk, is very light on system resources when it is monitoring and defragging in the background. I never even notice it running in monitoring mode, yet my disk is never more than 0.5% fragmented while monitoring is enabled.

So, to make a long story short, I think this app is deserving of the nsane seal of approval, that is, a check mark by it's name in the list.

Thanks for listening and I hope everyone tries this app out. Oh, one more thing, it is specifically stated to be compatible with W7 which is nice. I know the others work with 7, but this one feels more like it was optimized for working with 7 than the others yet do.

Well....since you think so highly of it....gonna to give it a shot.

One more thing is that even though one may have it set up for monitoring in the background to keep new files defragmented, every now and then you are supposed to run an "Optimize - Complete" on the drive, (I'm not sure yet whether it does this automatically when it thinks it needs it or whether one has to do it manually) and this results in a lot of stuff being repositioned for higher performance and takes a fairly long time to complete. But it still doesn't render the system as unresponsive as Perfect Disk, even while it is doing that.

Just installed it on XP...look good....only one additional service is running beside the tray icon(which can be disable)

This is good as Perfect disk has about 3 process running.

Its auto set to Optimize-Quick, seem unable to change that.

So far so good....

Gonna to installed it in Windows 7 later....
and see how it goes...
Well, I don't know how it works on XP, but on 7 you can change to any of the different Optimizations just by right clicking on the drive in the program window while you are in the Defragment section. The only thing I have not been able to force is background monitoring of external drives. This is not allowed because of the possibility of data loss in the event the drive is removed or turned off while the app is doing some defragmenting.

But the repositioning algorithm seems better than PD and as you (and I) noted, it seems lighter on system resources also. I could never get the Distrix defrag app to work well for me because it is just to complicated for me to set up properly to get the highest performance. I think O&O takes care of this part automatically which is another thing I like.

LoL, UD is good, but if you change programs frequently, then you need to used it more frequently.

I have a pc which I used to try out certain programs, if I don't like it...I will remove it....as such I would prefer

defrag program such as O&O to monitor and auto defrag.

For my other pc (which is using Win 7 Ultimate too), I will only be using UD as I seldom install or uninstall new progams in it.

In XP, upon right clicking, the option is grey out, as such unable to select an Optimize method.

NM, going to try it out on Win 7 later....most probably will be using O&O for this pc in the long run.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Edit: My bad...upon restart, its now OK...that is I am able to right click and configure.
You're welcome and I hope it works out for you, and that it gets the "check mark" of approval from nsane staff.

O&O Defrag is definitely a good program, I've tried it before and I was pretty impressed but it couldn't really beat UD for me.

Anyhow we're currently 'repicking' the picks so there will be some changes in the future. Maybe your suggestion will be amongst them ;)
