Windows 10 is more than twice safe as Windows 7 for home users

December 2017, almost 72% of home user devices had migrated to Windows 10, Windows 7 share was 15 % and Windows 8 only 11 %. Migration to Windows 10 is rewarding: The occurrence of malware per non-business device at the end of 2017 was .07 for Windows 10, versus .16 for Windows 7 and .17 on Windows XP. PUA volume has been steadily decreasing since its peak in February 2017; from a high of .33 PUAs per device, the rate dropped to .17 per device. Windows 10 sees about half the rate of PUAs per device as Windows 7.

More, almost all the devices that fell victim to the WannaCry ransomware attack were running Windows 7, and that attack alone is estimated to have caused $4 billion in losses to businesses.

They forgot to build in protection against themselves .

Building in that protection (that's if they could ever come up with good AV) would break their own OS

We're all allowed to have our own opinions

In the meantime think about this: how can a company that messes up almost every update, patch etc. etc. come up with good software to protect you and your OS

Webroot's study tells that Windows 10 is more than twice as safe as Windows 7 but what to think about almost identical occurrence of malwares in many years unpatched XP and Windows 7? Maybe attackers focus on Windows 7 because businesses aren't sufficiently updated to Windows 10 and they can do more profit there. Same Windows 7 malwares used against business computers are usable to attack against home users computers too.

Goodbye, Windows 7! :towel:

Windows 7: Stable, mature, user-controlled

Windows 8.1: Stable, mature, user-controlled

Windows 10: Unstable, immature, Microsoft-controlled

A difficult choice... NOT...

for me Windows 10 is more stable than Windows 8.x and more secure than Windows 7, but the best thing is that memory usage is similar than in Windows 7 or sometimes even small, that's why I prefer Windows 10 for now, because feels more secure and more optimized, specially for older PCs like the one I'm using.

That's why it is safer!!!

Once controlled by Microsoft, it became impossible for the home user to cause any damage...

Altruistic, Microsoft will take care of that!!!

One right.  It's mature, but one can mature so many ways. Death date for Windows 7 is determined and it's rottening with minimal care and suffering illnesses in hostile environment. When business users drop it... Using Windows 7 is a big mistake... :coolwink:

You're so right, this time. Ordinary girl and boy need guidance that only Big Mama can afford.

Windows Defender is boosting third party security suite business too. In 2018 it's good enough to use if you don't want to share your privacy with third party. Third party softwares have to compete with Defender by developing their products for better detection of malwares.

Keep in mind that "more than twice safe" is subjective based on the population sampled. To really compare the security between Win 10 and Win 7, you have to use at least four test machines, with two act as a control and the other two with up to date security patches for the Win 10 and Win 7, respectively. Then you pentest these test machines till they smoke or till useful and concludable data are obtained.

Why to go laboratorium if there is real data from real world situation where inepts trying to manage in hostile environment but the biggest threat is still behind the keyboard. That's main reason why Windows 10 is much safer than Windows 7 which got extra hype being the next Windows for frustrated Windows users after Vista flop.

What can you figure from that real world XP and Windows computers have equal mount of malwares inside them? :nuke:

hi,

by MS logic it's best to have an electrician always present in the room where you sleep (and do other things) with your partner, in case a light switch gets broken...

Have fun

Remember everyone, if the W10 upgrade was free, that means that we were/are the product as is everything in this day and age.

In MS strategy point of view, Yes, Win 10 is surely safe than Win 7 bcoz they made all unsafe actions with their botched/spy updates to Win 7 / 8.1 OS and other Office versions too. Once they inject their $h*t into the OS, it becomes unsafe compared to Win 10. However, Win 10's worst part is not yet revealed since they wanna sell it and others not revealing since they want to sponsor the OS or they don't know how to do when Win 10 is frequently unstable state/not working state.

Request to all Win 7 Home Users:

If MS acknowledged the news, then they have to file a class action law suit and make MS provide clean updates to make it safe until Windows 7 support is stopped. This is not about feature updates which stopped for Win 7.
If MS don't do it, we'll need to rebel against it.

I prefer andorid

Do u think it is the right choice? Many don't think so. They spy, stop fixes for older versions which make old devices[less than few years] unable to exist with bugs.
