It's unclear if the service outages for both services are related, though it seems Signal's problems are far more wide-ranging than Telegram's. Signal's woes, however, seem to extend across the globe with reports of outages coming from North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Both companies have separately acknowledged connection issues with their services and have promised they're working on a fix, though neither provided an ETA. While nowhere near as popular as the almost ubiquitous Facebook Messenger, WeChat or WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal have accumulated a dedicated userbase over the past few years, especially among the more privacy-oriented given their adoption of end-to-end encryption years before their competition.
