anuraag Posted March 4, 2018 Share Posted March 4, 2018 Microsoft Windows have already built-in default, free and powerful firewalls, but unfortunately, they lack a simple interface to define own simple rules and can be difficult sometimes to configure them the right way. Windows Firewall Control is a nifty little application which extends the functionality of the Windows Firewall and provides quick access to the most frequent options of Windows Firewall. It runs in the system tray and allows user to control the native firewall easily without having to waste time by navigating to the specific part of the firewall. Windows Firewall Control offers four filtering modes which can be switched with just a mouse click. WFC is free to use, registered users will get the advantage of learning mode which provides notifications for outgoing blocked connections. They are made from different developers and I think that Windows 10 Firewall Control is specifically for Windows 10, but Windows Firewall Control is for all versions of Windows. See this article for more. Windows Firewall Control 4 is an older version of this program. dcs18 Posted March 7, 2018 Share Posted March 7, 2018 In the recent past, have used both Windows Firewall Control and also Windows 10 Firewall Control (matter-of-fact, have used almost every big name in the firewall world) — I find Windows Firewall Control better than Windows 10 Firewall Control (but yet not the number 1.) That been said (WRT to the current capabilities of the latest breed of IDMs in terms of ARP poisoning and cache spoofing) it's not clear to me whether Windows 10 Firewall Control has the capability to block IDM from calling home — if it does than it would be the better one since Windows Firewall Control doesn't.
