Windows Firewall Control 5.1.0.0

Recommended Posts

Microsoft Windows have already built-in default, free and powerful firewalls, but unfortunately, they lack a simple interface to define own simple rules and can be difficult sometimes to configure them the right way. Windows Firewall Control is a nifty little application which extends the functionality of the Windows Firewall and provides quick access to the most frequent options of Windows Firewall. It runs in the system tray and allows user to control the native firewall easily without having to waste time by navigating to the specific part of the firewall. Windows Firewall Control offers four filtering modes which can be switched with just a mouse click. WFC is free to use, registered users will get the advantage of learning mode which provides notifications for outgoing blocked connections.

Thanks to ahmedkamatso for the update.

So I haven't been able to keep up to the changes with this software. Has windows firewall contro 10, 8, and 4 been rolled into this? Or is this an upgrade o Windows Firewall control 4?

Changes in 5.1.0.0:

  • New: 'Secure Rules' was rewritten from scratch. When enabled, this feature will prohibit adding, modifying or removing firewall rules from outside of WFC.
  • New: A new feature called 'Secure Profile' was added in the Security tab. When enabled, importing firewall rules and changing the filtering mode of Windows Firewall is possible only from WFC.
  • New: A dialog is displayed to the user if the uninstall is launched while the program is locked with a password.
  • New: A new global hot key can be defined in Options tab to toggle Secure Rules state.
  • Fixed: If the uninstaller is launched multiple times, the dialog is displayed multiple times instead of focusing the already running instance of it.
  • Improved: When choosing a custom notification sound for the notifications, the dialog will now open by default in 'C:\Windows\Media' folder.
  • Improved: Various user interface improvements.
  • Updated: The WFC recommended rules contain now some inbound rules required for accessing the computers from the local network.
  • Updated: The URL services from the Tools tab were updated.
  • Updated: The user manual was updated with new topics.

The above 2 highlighted and refurbished features are now working effectively, without the occasional failures. F3h9xqz.gif

Windows 10 Firewall Control is a completely different program from this program. They are made from different developers and I think that Windows 10 Firewall Control is specifically for Windows 10, but Windows Firewall Control is for all versions of Windows. See this article for more.

Windows Firewall Control 4 is an older version of this program. Windows Firewall Control 5 came out October 2017.

Does anyone know how the id is generated? Is it based of the MB or the Harddrive?

I would think from the hdd, but I can't say for sure. I always thought that it was generated for the specific account.

Windows 10 Firewall Control = Sphinx-soft

Windows  Firewall Control = Binisoft

In the recent past, have used both Windows Firewall Control and also Windows 10 Firewall Control (matter-of-fact, have used almost every big name in the firewall world) — I find Windows Firewall Control better than Windows 10 Firewall Control (but yet not the number 1.)

That been said (WRT to the current capabilities of the latest breed of IDMs in terms of ARP poisoning and cache spoofing) it's not clear to me whether Windows 10 Firewall Control has the capability to block IDM from calling home — if it does than it would be the better one since Windows Firewall Control doesn't.

I have been using it for a while now, at least a year or so. There is a option for Allow this program. I want an option that says "Allow Once and ask again".

Ah, I see. I didnt realize that was an option. If that was the case, they could add another menu option. (for the lazy ones.)
