Official Announcement/News: CCleaner v5.36

Browser Cleaning
- Firefox: updated Session cleaning rule to support changes in Firefox 56.0
- Chrome (& Chromium): updated Internet History cleaning rule to clean user activity data
- Opera: updated Internet History cleaning rule to clean user activity data

Default Cleaning Rules
- Windows Explorer: Most Recently Used documents and other MRU files no longer cleaned by default
- Windows Defender: Scan history no longer cleaned by default
- Microsoft Office: MRUs no longer cleaned by default
- Edge, Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Thunderbird: Current session data no longer cleaned by default

Emergency Updater
- Added new executable: "CCUpdate.exe"
- Added new Windows Scheduled Task: "CCleaner Update"

:idea:

To those who don't want top mess with CCleaner installation but don't want to get the emergency update can just disable it in Task Scheduler.

Task Scheduler -> Task Scheduler Library -> CCleaner Update - >in context menu[right-click] - > Disable.

Recommended: Disable Check for update in program. Install future updates offline and check the task status and repeat the above. Until next update, stay in peace.

Portable version don't have that emergency updater exe noways so it 's not required just like 32 bit version not required on a x64 system .

Emergency Updater

Following the security incident in September we have taken steps to improve our security across the board. Within CCleaner, this means the addition of an 'Emergency Updater' security feature that allows us to force a software update in a worse-case scenario. We have ring-fenced the updater in its own executable to allow it to operate independently from the main executable. The update check runs as a scheduled task in Windows.

Emergency Updater checks regularly to see if an emergency security update is available. If one is, it applies the update immediately. Checks only transmit 1-2 KB of data and generally an emergency update will consist of a differential patch roughly 500 KB in size.

I would of never knew it had a Emergency Updater if i didn't see you guys on here making a big deal out of nothing because i just always pull the 64 bit exe out the portable zip and update my installed version witch don't have Emergency Updater . I always keep the program blocked with a firewall anyways and that's how all them people got infected was allowing this program too access the internet . If something was to ever happen again by the time they updated you it would be too late . If you don't want too use the program because they add features don't like feel free not too . No one twist you're arm and says you have too use this software . There are alternatives out there .

I do not understand why you need to do this so, if you have an option in the CCleaner settings (default it is Options), or you can do this in the ccleaner.ini file, with the command UpdateCheck=0 (NB! Before changing the ccleaner.ini file, turn CCleaner off, also the monitoring if it runing currently - Important !)

Even, if You make some mistakes during installation, ccleaner.ini not changing. Therefore, it is not possible to make a mistake.

There's no need to do changes in scheduled tasks and in control panel, although you can do it there too.
But why to make simple things tricky, that's a question.
