Nutella alert after gang makes off with 20 tonnes of chocolate spread

German police have warned anyone tempted by large quantities of chocolate spread to report it, and for chocoholics to be on their guard after a gang made off with 20 tonnes of Nutella.

The theft took place in the central German town of Neustadt, 120km northeast of Frankfurt, and Kinder Surprise eggs were also snatched in the heist.

Police have said it must have involved a lorry in order to remove the vast quantity of sweet spread.

"Anyone offered large quantities of chocolate via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately," Neustadt police said in a statement.

The stash of confectionery, worth between €50,000 and €70,000, was taken between Saturday evening and midday on Sunday.

Police are unsure whether the theft had been planned or was opportunistic.

They are also looking into whether the case had any link with the theft of an empty trailer in Weimar, which was also stolen at the weekend.

Just last week, there was another chocolate-related crime in Germany.

Officers in Bad Oldesloe, in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, announced they were looking for the owner of 53g of chocolate, presumed to be stolen and dumped, found in the town.

Someone has even requested the person who did this to come and answer why he did so. :P

Having said, it's not the most healthy things out there though.

I cannot imagine what anyone would do with more than one case of it.  After all, who would not be sick of it after eating more than that.
