dufus
Mikoyan MiG-35 Russia’s mighty, new Mikoyan MiG-35 light multirole fighter has taken center stage at the MAKS Aviation and Space Salon here in Zhukovsky. The aircraft is the latest derivative of the 1980s Soviet-era MiG-29 “Fulcrum” configuration, carrying forward the same basic airframe design but incorporating the latest avionics, sensors, weapons and electronic warfare equipment, including a counter-stealth L-band radar in the leading-edge root extension and potentially the most current X-band Zuke active, electronically scanned array radar. The "Fulcrum-F" was unveiled by United Aircraft Corp. (UAC) in Lukhovitsy near Moscow in late January for state orders and foreign military sales. One of two developmental aircraft is at MAKS as the other continues flight testing. The MiG-35 stand includes two wide-screen televisions mounted on robotic arms that display an augmented-reality cutaway of the aircraft, including its two Klimov RD-33MK engines. The “4++ generation” swing-role aircraft is designed to compete with the latest fourth- and fifth-generation combat aircraft—both in combat and for customer orders—although MiG CEO Ilya Tarasenko will not say if an order is expected as part of the next state armaments program covering 2018-25. Tarasenko says the aircraft employs the latest radar-signature-reduction technology and electronic countermeasure to be competitive against stealthy Western rivals such as the Lockheed Martin F-35—and could even beat the F-35 in an air battle if challenged. http://aviationweek.com/defense/mig-35-stars-russias-maks-air-show#slide-0-field_images-1660371
