CrAKeN
These are the most popular programs in the world, according to Avast Google Chrome is not only the world’s number one browser, but also the world’s most popular desktop application, according to data provided by security company Avast. A report analyzing software installed on machines running Avast in the first quarter of the year indicates that Google Chrome is currently the top most installed PC program, followed by Adobe Reader and Flash Player (the ActiveX version). Mozilla Firefox, Google’s Chrome top rival at this point, is fourth, followed by the Flash Player plug-in, Skype, and VLC. WinRAR, Java, and Adobe Air complete the top 10. According to Avast, the average PC user has 49 installed programs, and on more than half of them, Google Chrome is the default browser. Net Applications, a third-party research firm, indicates that Chrome is close to securing 60 percent of the desktop market. Outdated applications Although many of these apps receive updates regularly, there’s an important share of users that don’t actually install the latest versions, which keeps them vulnerable and exposes their PCs to attacks. “Over 52% of the most popular, critical and security related applications, like Firefox, Flash or Java aren’t being updated by users around the world. This can be caused by users ignoring updates and updates not working properly. It doesn’t just open up the door for attackers exploiting out of date software vulnerabilities, but users are also missing out on the latest features, bug fixes and compatibility they get through latest software,” Avast explains. Java leads the chart of the top 10 least updated programs, followed by the ActiveX version of Flash Player, FoxIt Reader, GOM Media Player, and Nitro Pro. As you can see, top programs that come with a built-in update engine are not on the list, as it’s the case of Google Chrome. In fact, Google Chrome leads the chart concerning up-to-date applications, as no less than 88 percent of the systems were Avast software was installed was also running the most recent version of the browser. Opera is second with 84 percent, while Microsoft’s Skype is third with 76 percent. Source

Sorry but I stooped trying too be like everyone else when I got out of high school back in the 1980s a bunch of grown ups acting like adolescents Just because the masses use it dont mean you have too most video sites have htm5 even now and there's other ways to watch videos, There is not even many apps on windows that need java anymore.Only thing i use on that list very often is Winrar and Firefox and Firefox dont even have a high marketshare so it should not even be up there showing the post is not 100% accurate. luisam
1. Chrome: It's installed in my computer but I don't use it 2. Adobe Reader: I don't even remember when I used it last time. Guess it was Adobe Reader 8. Have Foxit PhantomPDF, NitroPDF and Infix; have SumatraPDF installed too but I use it to read EPUB, MOBI and DJVU. 3. Flash Player: Not installed 4. Mozilla Firefox: duely updated to latest version 5. Flash Player Plug-In: keep it updated because some webstites need it to play audio 6. Skype: never used. I use WhatsApp on my smartphone 7. VLC Player: keep it updated 8. WinRar: keep it updated 9. Java: stopped using it since last time I reinstalled Windows XP. 10. Adobe Air: ehhmm... I don't even know for what it is supposed to be used Now, I miss MS Office form this list by Avast. About any user I know, all have MS Office Installed, at least the 3 basic components: Word, Excell and PowerPoint. Some have all the suite, even if they never use them, like Outlook, Access and Publisher, just because people install the fast mode and not the custom. On of the factors Adobe Reader continues being popular is because many government and public service websites specify users that they should have it installed to download or upload forms, petitions, attachements, etc. and even provide the link to get it. Also many computers have it preinstalled when you buy one.
