Windows XP still being used on around 8 percent of the world's PCs

Mozilla has recently launched Firefox 52 and this particular release is one critical moment for Windows XP and Windows Vista, as it’s the last version of the browser offering support for these two old operating systems.

This is the reason Mozilla launched Firefox 52 as an extended support release version, which means that it will continue getting security updates exclusively for another more year, but on the other hand, no new features and improvements are being added.

This decision gives XP and Vista users more time to upgrade their computers or find an alternative browser, though options in this regard are pretty limited right now.

Mozilla Firefox will continue getting updates and improvements on Windows 7, 8.1, and 10, and Windows XP and Vista users are recommended to upgrade to any of these versions.

World not yet giving up on Windows XP

Windows XP no longer receives updates since April 2014, while Windows Vista is projected to reach end of support on April 11 this year. This means that no patches are released and software developers are one by one dropping support for these operating systems.

In the case of Windows XP, choosing the right browser becomes kind of a challenge, as Google has already pulled support for the 16-year-old OS in Chrome last year, while Internet Explorer is no longer getting any updates and improvements.

Opera keeps working on Windows XP, while Firefox will continue getting security patches for another 12 months.

On the other hand, third-party statistics show that Windows XP continues to be more popular than anyone expected, with a market share of approximately 8 percent. Windows Vista is substantially less popular, but the existing market share of Windows XP shows the world’s just not ready yet to abandon this OS, despite the fact that Microsoft itself retired it nearly 3 years ago.

This is Windows 7 in about 5 more years  , :P I stop using XP in 2010... 2001-2010  that's long enough for me Still that dont stop no one form using it.. if there still on a OS that's not got windows updates since 2014 they most likely numb to using outdated software any how   Give Firefox another year 2018 they may be as dead as XP?. This is not good news for Firefox this means millions of people will not  be updateing to newer versions  of there browser when it has a low marketshare already.

Firefox 52 ESR  gets updates tell March 2018  that's another year of updates for a OS  that's not been supported by Microsoft  that be 4 years past .XP  updates was ment too run out in 2012  but were the economy was bad and business are slow to adapt

Microsoft gave Windows XP  tell 2014  but that's when Microsoft stop being nice guys too  That's when Microsoft gave  Steve Ballmer a  ultimatum to resign or be fired in 2014  for giving XP 2 more years of updates and making Windows 8 these decisions were not profitable for Redmond. Also Windows Phone was under his watch as well and that was never profitable ether

Why does it bother you people still use XP  ? I see why it bothers Microsoft  because using a OS that came out in 2001 is   not profitable for them .Also it's not profitable for most companies  that have a high market value to keep  making software for 5 windows os  it cuts down on overhead. But you dont lose nothing if people use Windows XP  so I don't understand you're point?  I have a PC  here with Windows XP on it.  i use for a  jukebox  offline for parties and stuff. Winamp works great on it. I tried Linux on it  and it runs to slow with newer Linux  so i put XP SP 3 back  on it, I dont care if you still use Windows ME  or Windows 95  I only care about what  I use. lol. :)

Once they made Windows Vista sp2  outdated software or not I could use it for anything I do  ,  They not really added anything better to windows really since then all windows have been made off Vista's core . All windows 7 Sp 1 is Vista SP4 lol.. When   Hevc  and 4k optimized processors  become conman then what ever OS Microsoft has will be better too me if some other OS dont make something better  but for people who dont game or watch 4k or Hevc  this want matter..

They finally caught  on in 2015 to stop giving Windows new names for the same Windows Core.   Once the masses reach Windows 10 it will just be Windows 10 unless they change there mind . They should drop the 10  and just call it Windows.

Good job Mozilla for supporting XP this long. We forgive you for ending it next year.

I have stopped updating most of my programs on XP anyway. My system is so stable I don't need to mess with it.

Only if you're ignorant and/or unskilled enough to set one simple registry key to get security patches. In fact, even IE6 is still getting patched recently, although most people probably have IE8 at least.
