Man hit with £250,000 bill for selling 'pre-loaded' Kodi boxes that screen Premier League to pubs and clubs

A man has been hit with a £250,000 bill for selling 'pre-loaded' Kodi boxes which could screen Premier League football to pubs and clubs.

Malcolm Mayes, 65, from Hartlepool, Teesside flogged ‘pre-loaded’ boxes for £1,000 each to pubs and clubs so they could illegally screen live football and pay per view events.

The Teeside Gazette reports Hartlepool Council's authority’s trading standards department brought the prosecution.

The council say he targeted the venue through adverts in a national magazine which claimed his devices were ‘100% legal’.

A judge at Teesside Crown Court ordered him to pay the council’s £170,000 costs while a Proceeds of Crime Order was made against him for a further £80,000.

LOL  you think that's something in the USA you got many people who buy black boxes  for satellite it's been going on since the 90s and still goes on today a lot and if you get busted you could be fined $10,000 plus legal fees just .for having one .

The black market in piracy devices represents a multimillion-dollar industry in the United States,” the lawsuit says.

While this is unreasonable, I personally do not agree with what this person is doing. The company, though probably using questionable tactics now, is being blamed for illegal usage of it's product due to this. I can understand people doing it for free, by helping others install things into their devices, but making money out of it is not acceptable.

But the question is, will Kodi be as famous and highly used had common users, who do not know how to install things into it and would probably not even be buying those devices if not for the filesharing features provided by such devices here.

But on streets it's never been about what's right it's always been about money you can go in the hood in my country and i'm sure its the same anywhere else there be people selling cheap dvds to people that dont have the internet . that they copied off some release they downloaded . Even the DVDSCR that were posted on the internet were sold to CM8 from a man on the street meaning  for a few dollars you can have stuff never been posted on the internet yet. The shame of it is even websites that have movies and things it's all about money now and then people wonder why they want too stop it. .
