Exclusive: Windows 10 Creators Update set to be released on April 2017

Last October at the Windows 10 event in New York City, Microsoft officially unveiled the Windows 10 Creators Update, codenamed “Redstone 2.” At the event, Microsoft stated that the update will be released in “early 2017” but we didn’t know when exactly the update will arrive.

Until now, anyway.

Per my sources, Microsoft will be releasing the Windows 10 Creators Update this April. While the update initially had a version number of 1703 in Insider Builds leading to speculation that it would be released in March 2017, we can reveal that the final version number will actually be 1704 for an April release. This is not the first time that Microsoft has changed version numbers in Insider Preview releases, the firm previously changed the Xbox’s Anniversary Update release number from 1607 to 1608 last year.

For those unfamiliar, the version number for the update indicates its release month and year: the “17” in 1704 indicates the release year – in this case, 2017 and the “04” indicates the month of release: April.

Like the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft will gradually roll out the Creators Update to ensure the best experience for Windows 10 users, but users will be able to manually upgrade to the Creators Update if they want to.

CREATORS UPDATE SHOULD BE “FEATURE LOCKED” BY THE END OF JANUARY

Microsoft is currently in the process of finalizing things for the Windows 10 Creators Update. The Creators Update is expected to be “feature locked” by mid/late January which means most of the shipping features will be present by that period. That certainly doesn’t mean that the update is “complete” per se, as Microsoft will be working on polishing the new features and fixing bugs before the release.

The company has already started planning for the next update, codenamed “Redstone 3” which is expected to bring a range of new features, including an improved design language for the OS. I was told that Redstone 3 is planned to be released before the end of 2017, but things are in the very early stage of development, so there isn’t a set date just yet.

Do keep in mind that these are Microsoft’s internal plans, and the company may change their plans whenever they want. But at this point of development, it’s unlikely their plans will see any major change.

i been using Redstone 1 since a few weeks since before it ever came out i never experienced any bugs  like some others did  so is it safe to deploy before then depends on certain factors. i had more problems out of windows 7  back when  i 1st installed it than i ever had on Windows 10  or windows  8.1 lol

Seven and a half years old  And windows 7 dont even hardly  make the windows news  expect for the marketshare report  once a month  it really died out after they removed GWX even when anything is posted about Windows 7 its comparing it to Windows 10  .. 7 years ago many sites existed that dont today if you want too count bugs in Windows 7 you better use the wayback machine because Google deleted most of the results years ago  after all they are the biggest censors of the internet today.

At Windows 7 forums the subfourm with the most post is  BSOD crashes  33,898  post and thats just one site.and one type of bug. :P

You obviously don't have a Kindle, don't use Skype with a webcam, didn't lose any drive partitions, had no external drives freeze or dismount, didn't have 3.99TB of space to clean up on a drive smaller than that, didn't have any default apps reset, don't mind the new Start Menu and app ads, etc, etc? Plenty of folks did.

Then it took Microsoft 8 (or was it 9) subsequent updates to the Anniversary Update before these and all the others were sorted. Microsoft has totally lost the plot with QA.

Anyway, thanks for installing updates early. If not for beta-testers such as yourself, there'd be even more bugs. :P

Windows 7 (and 8.1) is stable, mature, and gives users control. Windows 10 is neither and doesn't.

Give Windows 10 a year or so to catch up with Windows 7. In the Bugs and Goofs metric, that is, not in stability, maturity, and user-control.

Because Windows 7's (and 8/8.1's) UI and functionality are stable. UNlike the times, they ain't a-Changing.

Good luck to you when (not if) Microsoft decide to change the Windows 10 UI and you hate it. That's the problem with Windows 10 being "the last version of Windows", major changes to UI and functionality will happen, and Windows 10 users will just have to suck-it-up.

ive not used Windows 7  in years  as my main OS  so it's already been dead in my world for quite along time and i never really missed it just like i dont miss XP and i used it 10 years before i moved on   ..i used Windows 8.1 so long i got bored of it. i get bored real easy . i dont beta test Windows 10 I never been a insider  i just install what ever they release to the consumer because it's free if it would of not been free id still be on Windows 8.1 tell i bought a new PC . i do beta test Linux  though i  use unstable updates in Manjaro Linux but i also have stable versions of Linux Mint  and also i have a machine with windows 7 that i never use anymore.

I joined also Manjaro, years before I stayed with Debian a little, but I also have 3 VM with Ubuntu Mate, Linux Mint, and Kali; I'm looking to BlackArch for number 4

Manjaro with XFCE I like him very much, and I discovered aur packages :)

About Windows all machines now are on 10, but I miss a little Windows 7.

I also have a Raspbian :) and some android guys...

it was easy for me too not too not miss windows 7 because my main OS that had windows 7 on it bit the dust years ago so i bought a windows 8 pc and upgraded it to Windows 8.1 and never looked back . Also i bought another PC with Windows 8.1  both have Windows 10 on them one i'm tripe booting with 2 Linux OS and the other one i duel boot Windows 10 and Linux Mint.

I putted dedicated Laptop only for Manjaro, and one dedicated only for 10; 2 Workstation are for Windows only but on one of them have several VM, onto another laptop old Macbook there is a patched osx 10.12.2 because they won't support it anymore officialy, so everytime have to redo things if not boot, but easy with dedicated stick. Anyway I tend to modify when possible, one tablet was Kindle Fire now it is old glorious CM12.1, but future not clear now, I hope developer will continue to support with maybe lineageos or what will come, I don't like fireos ads. And I have bootable usb like tails.

i done this for awhile  with Linux Mint  when i changed hard drives i had Linux mint on one PC and Windows 8.1 on the other  , i started having problems on my AMD machine with display drivers and new versions of Linux Mint and Ubuntu so i put Windows 10 back on it and have a  dedicated Hard drive for Linux . but Manjaro works fine on my AMD PC.. this was the reason i started learning Arch and i have Linux mint 17.3 right beside it.  On my Intel machine when i changed to Windows 10 on it i went ahead and made another partition and installed Linux mint 18 on it too.
