Karlston
Want to REALLY squash Cortana? Open the Task Manager. Open C:\Windows\SystemApps Rename the folder “Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy.” You have to stop the Cortana process in the Task Manager, b/c it’s using the folder. You have to be FAST FAST b/c the process restarts quickly. Reboot. The Cortana “O” still shows in the search box, but the search box is DEAD – you can’t type anything in it. Cortana still shows in the taskbar context menu, but the Cortana icon is also DEAD. Install Classic Shell and type in the search box. You get a “Microsoft Windows Search Indexer” process that shows activity. Don’t know what other effects this might have, but it does the job of killing the Cortana processes and removing them from the Task Manager apparently. Excerpt from Does “killing” Cortana really kill Cortana? (AskWoody) Posters note: This is an excerpt from a long article (linked above) where PKCano documents various attempts at stopping Cortana, including the above which seems successful. steven36
i can just disable it with process lasso but it breaks windows search tell i allow it. to run again so i just disable it with O&O ShutUp10 and it then turns into normal windows search and i just block searchui.exe with my firewall so it dont call home to Bing . Its nothing new even XP if you didn't block it called home trough normal search . I dont use no 3rd party start menu since i stop using windows 8.1 . I tried it on Windows 10 1st release TH1 and didn't like using classic shell for it .

IronY-Man
Thats why I preferred LTSB edition overall , Cortana and all the UWP and metro-modern clutter is already filtered out in it !!
