Windows 8.1 snooping patch KB 2976978 re-re-re-released

It’s an optional patch, so you won’t get it unless you ask for it.

The KB article is now up to revision 32.

Microsoft is careful to note (this time):

This update performs diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program. The diagnostics evaluate compatibility on the Windows ecosystem and help Microsoft to ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows. There is no GWX or upgrade functionality contained in this update.

It’s the Win8.1 analog to the much-discussed Win7 KB 2952664.

While Microsoft implies that the patch only does its snooping if you enable the Customer Experience Improvement Program, I haven’t found any official confirmation.

It's nothing new M$  has been releasing this patch since the spring of 2015 and Woody post about  it over and over again , again and again like a broken record  back  when i was on Windows 8.1 I never did install this update so it never effected  me and even if they ever make you install in cumulative update it  can be blocked because we block stuff like this in Windows 10.

Apr 17, 2015  How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

http://www.ghacks.net/2015/04/17/how-to-remove-windows-10-upgrade-updates-in-windows-7-and-8/

So why the  repetitious  crap?  they have batch files that  remove all snooping  patches and  Windows 10 have like  100 programs to block telemetry and they are  good firewalls out there too . My PC dont install updates unless i install them and i'm on windows 10 . If I got a bad update the worse that could happen would be Id have to do a system restore and wait on them to fix it. Ive  had too do this before on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 it was compatibly  related not update related ..

Last patch Tuesday i had do to a system restore because the power went off when a update was installing. . I ended having to run Windows Repair Free/Pro on it so i could update again It thought it was already  up to date.

It want never happen again  I blocked updates with my firewall and will install updates on my time not there's.
