Disk Partition size suggestion for Windows 10 64-Bit

Hello everyone,

Please suggest me the disk partition size for Windows 10 64-Bit. Till now I have always used a single disk partition but now I am thinking to use two disk partitions (OS + Data).

My software requirements are minimal, only essential software, here is the list:

  1. MS Office 2016
  2. Adobe Reader
  3. MS Visual Studio
  4. and a few more.

No games and I would be regularly updating the Windows.

Please tell me if 80 GB would be enough for OS (C: Drive) or should I make it 100 GB or more.

i usually have two partitions and although am like you but i keep the two drives in 50:50 ratio with the data partition slight advantage. with those updates coming in, c:/ empty space always reducing. plus if you download something it goes in c:/ usually

My configuration :

SSD 256GB + 2TB External HDD USB 3.0

The ssd is splitted in two partitions :

C - 100GB for Windows & Apps.
D - 137GB for downloads ( except torrents ) & Virtual Machines

The external HDD is splitted in four partitions for Documents ( Music / Pictures / Videos ), Torrents, Software Kits , Android Apps. , Cloud ...etc.

Also I have two NAS Devices for other things & for backup .

Have a great day ! ;)

So I guess that 100 GB would be sufficient for Windows & Few Programs and 2nd partition for data storage.

Anyone should consider these : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825172.aspx before partitioning his HDD/SSD.

and I will not move my Libraries.

I don't use the windows libraries system : I made folders on my external hdd according with my needs.

Now it depends how much storage space you will need for libraries ( for the beginning and for future )....

Better not to make partitions on your SSD , just put your OS in it and leave some free space in it .

Use one or two big HDDs for backup and data storage , take care with your SSD , never wipe free space on it ,never defragment , dont use hibernate and indexing .

Remember, a SSD is not a HDD , it needs special attention if you want to use it for a long time............

thank you everyone for participating in the discussion :) . I have gone with '100 GB (C Drive) + 2nd partition'. I wanted to have separate OS partition to avoid the hassle of copying data  all over again after a fresh install.
