Microsoft is trying to modernize each and everything present in the Windows 10 OS and in that attempt, Microsoft has made many changes and improvements to the recently released Windows 10 Anniversary Update to transform many UI elements into modern (aka metro) UI.

You might have noticed that in Windows 10 Anniversary Update and later builds, the UAC (User Account Control) prompt dialog box as well as Credential UI box are also modernized. They use the same fresh and modern UI similar to other modern (UWP) apps such as Microsoft Edge, Settings app, etc as shown in following image:

If you don't like the new modern XAML based UAC prompt and Credential UI box and want to restore classic UI, this tutorial will help you.

Fortunately, Microsoft has provided a small Registry tweak to disable modern UAC and Credential UI and bring back the classic UI in Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

With the help of this Registry tweak, you'll be able to replace new modern UAC prompt and Credential UI with previous classic UAC box as shown in following screenshot:

If you want to restore classic UI of UAC and Credential boxes, check out following simple steps:

1. Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type regedit and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\TestHooks

3. In right-side pane, you'll find a DWORD XamlCredUIAvailable. Double-click on it and change its value to 0

That's it. Close Registry Editor and it'll immediately restore classic UAC prompt and Credential UI in Windows 10 OS.

In future, if you want to restore modern UI back, simply change value of XamlCredUIAvailable DWORD to 1 again.

PS: If you are not familiar with Registry editing and want a ready-made Registry script to do the task automatically, download following ZIP file, extract it and run the extracted REG file. It'll ask for confirmation, accept it:

Registry Script to Disable Modern UAC Prompt and Credential UI in Windows 10

The ZIP file also contains a restore registry script to restore new modern UAC prompt and Credential UI screens.
