Security researcher accuses Microsoft of 'sneaky data mining' in Windows 10

That is an outright falsehood.  I have systems that haven't had an update since SP1 was installed.  They are more secure than any standard updated system on the internet.  As far as firewalls go, you start by blocking everything and then little by little configure what you want to get thru.  If you can't read it or identify it then it doesn't get thru.  I would never trust a system that someone else setup or provided 'expert advice' on securing it.  Instead I trust my 49 years experience in computers.

Why dont you count how many holes they patched since SP! and tell me you're not running Swiss cheese ,Even XP has less holes in it than Windows 7  not patched since Windows 7 SP1 .If you got systems that's not been patched since 2011  experience dont help if  you never got infected  its sheer luck . No security  expert is going to say never do updates. And what was the point in never doing updates ?  I done all updates except  for get windows 10 updates on the Windows 7 machines on my network and they still run just fine . You bragging because you run systems with shell shock and 1000s of other holes in it dont sound like a expert to me you sound like a fool. :P

The whole reason Microsoft caught everyone off guard with GWX and they cried  about Windows 7 and 8.1 getting forced upgraded to Windows 10  was because millions of people ran Windows 7 and  8.x with Auto updates  on ..Before June 2015 there was no reason to turn updates off really . Now what they do in the future with cumulative  Windows updates  only time will tell on  Windows 7 and  8.1 . and I run Windows 10 so its not my problem . If they do something to make Windows 10 not  usable to me .i will just use Linux all the time and still get security updates . Im not going to run a unpatched  system  just so i can stay on Windows. I dont care if the masses stay om Windows XP  and Windows 7 and rot thats not my problem ether. I never do what the masses do and never have .

I ran Windows 8.1 since 2014  and bought it 2 times if everyone would have bought it like me, they would of never tried to force Windows 10 on  you for free and  Windows 10 would not be full of ads . It was the consumer's own doing so cry me a river.

Everyone wants cake and ice cream for free, they dont never want to support the company that makes there OS and  then they got the balls to complain when the company does things they dont like because there out of  options because what they sold before 2013 dont earn them a profit today!  If you dont like windows or Microsoft. Go buy a MAC or use Linux and stop you're belly aching already,  solve you're problems dont just add to them. Not doing updates and complaining is just adding to them its not solving them.  No one can solve them but you. . :)

I have to agree its foolish to run unpatched systems and if you have never gotten hacked your simply avoiding potentially dangerous sites and not really going on the internet.  There are malware infections like dark comet (you can specify where to infect the system appdata folder is a location you can pick there are six options to choose from when it goes to what location you can have the malware infect so blocking the appdata folder is not going to block all infections its simply going to block infections that are told to hit the appdata folder (and dark comet is not the only infection that allows you to choose the location to drop your malware).  I think it would be a very good idea if microsoft updated windows update and let you choose to install as cumulative update or choose individual files to install like downloading a torrent and it lets you download all files at once or download one or two or any file you want and ignore the files you dislike (make it a cumulative update by default and allow the user to download all at once or install each update individually).

you think enterprise version will protect you because it has group policy witch are nothing but  a glorified regedit for noobs.  ? That dont make it magically open source its closed source so still you dont know.regradless of what  version of windows you're on. and anyone uses a smartphone already has  jumped off that cliff long ago .

Most people sold out  long ago i seen a documentary  on this and most people today dont even know the meaning of selling out if asked.  Selling out,  means giving you're data away for profit in order to use free services for no cost in money . Regardless  if its Google ,Apple ,Yahoo, Facebook Twitter , Microsoft  Or any other service that collects data for profit you still sold out..  Most people dont realize  they did even.. So it seems a little too late for most people  already. to complain now .

When the Owner of Kat got caught it was not Microsoft that handed over his personal info. it Was Apple and Facebook so you're not really safe no matter were you go or what you use  welcome too the internet. .

Yeah I know most companies attempt to collect information from it's users, but you at least have to be given the option to opt out if you don't want it. If you do illegal things then you have to be careful not to expose your personal information, logging on to a public service with your real IP when you run a service people have been locked up for in the past is idiotic.

I just object to my information being sold especially from a company as sleazy as Microsoft.

I dont like no company doing it to me. that why i dont have accounts  for any off these services any more and i never made one up with my real info in my life ,and when i access any of them not signed in i dont use my real ip and i dont even have nothing on my computer with my real full name on it . So there is no way they know who I am really. because a ip is not a person even if not behind a vpn lol.. I use snail mail for stuff with my real name still :)
