onlyme2 Posted August 12, 2016 Share Posted August 12, 2016 Deutsche Welle the German broadcaster has aired a document released by the German Foreign Office dating back to 1989, which shows that an unnamed Syrian man walked into the West German Embassy in Damascus and donated the equivalent of a month's wages (2,000 Syrian pounds - 255 Deutschmark at the time) to help East German refugees who were trying to reach West Germany via Hungary and Czechoslovakia just ahead of the fall of the Berlin Wall. luisam Posted August 12, 2016 Share Posted August 12, 2016 Interesting to remember that just this flow of German refugees through Hungary and Czechoslovakia gave origin to the implosion of the East Germany Regime. After they've spent BILLIONS on building and improving the frontier fortification between east and west, everything got blown up and resulted absolutely useless because of the of the collapse of the communist regime in Hungary whose new govermnent removed all limitations from crossing the border to Austria, Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
