gipsy
Some Turkish military units have attempted an uprising that will be not allowed to succeed, the country's prime minister said late Friday in a phone interview with Turkish broadcaster A Haber. The uprising is "an attempt against democracy and the will of the people," Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told state news agency Anadolu. "Those who attempted this will pay the heaviest price." The Turkish military has issued statements, which have been published in some Turkish media, and not others, and reported by the Reuters news agency, claiming it has "fully seized control of Turkey" to maintain democratic order, that rule of law must remain a priority and international relations must remain. The statements have not been distributed through regular web channels. There is no independent verification of either claim and it is unclear who is in charge in Turkey. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters in Moscow that he has been given reports about what is going on. "I don't have any details. I hope there will be peace, stability and continuity in Turkey," he said. One tweet showed a military jet flying extremely low over the capital Ankara. A report from the U.S. Embassy in Ankara said military-appearing jets had been flying low over the city and Istanbul for about an hour. Two bridges in Istanbul are closed in one direction by the military. Cars are flowing from the European side of the city to the Asian, but soldiers and military vehicles are blocking the path to the European side. source a week ago i went from Turkey where spent great 10 days as a part of my vacation.forced to cancel my trip to relatives in Greece of terroristic act there & now...f***kin' world we r livin' now days ppl. kasper
it is good that the coup was foiled coup do not know if it was successful what would happen with Turkey even though this event was part of the army, but it could end up disintegration of the country and it could be a disaster
onlyme2
A few facts of life, Turkey is a member of NATO, Turkey has the second largest army in NATO after the USA. All staff officers in the Turkish army are trained by the US military, it would be unimaginable for Turkish military units to undergo deployment on such a scale without American military advisers knowledge/ consent. The end game in Syria is in sight now, there are thousands of jihadists from all over the world who entered Syria through Turkey, and who have been supplied by the Turkish security services in more ways than one (if you follow such things you'd know that two Turkish journalists are facing some serious charges in Turkey because they dared air video footage showing Turkish security providing Syrian jihadists with weapons concealed among humanitarian aid). What will remain of the Jihadists once the dust settles in Syria will need a refuge, none of their countries wants them back, A few days prior to the military uprising, Turkish president Erdogan went on record saying that Turkish citizenship will be offered to any Syrian "refugees" who want it. Southern Turkey has been undergoing a civil war for the past three years that has resulted in seven hundred thousand Turkish Kurd internally displaced refugees. This latest coup is but a single episode in a long running saga, there is a lot more to come.
SnakeMasteR
It's indeed a bit fishy that only 12 hours after the coup a list with around 2700 judges - ready to arrest - existed. I'm not sure how that is possible, considering french authorities require weeks of investigations to get a handful individuals. http://tinyurl.com/zjznnvf

SnakeMasteR
Apparently. The amount of arrested and sacked people is that high, it's too funny to even remotely think about there has been some investigation prior to it going on. Hitler would be proud about that kind of "cleansing, that's a blessing of god", as they call it. Turkish military has shown that historically, coups targeting the government never failed, so why should it fail now, with all the experience and knowledge they should have executing a proper coup? Doesn't make sense. A real coup would have targeted Erdogan or near affiliates directly, either by killing or capturing them. Not by blocking some frikken bridge somewhere in nowhere waiting to get arrested. Is it April again? The only one benefiting from this foolish attempt is Erdogan to get political enemies out of the way in batch but i really doubt that a real military coup would have failed. Administrator DKT27 Posted July 18, 2016 Administrator Share Posted July 18, 2016 There are some strong suggestions that all this might have been staged. Some part of the military are even saying that they were not even aware what was happening. Whatever it is, people should not suffer in all this. SnakeMasteR
At height of Turkish coup bid, rebel jets had President Erdogan's plane in their sights http://reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0ZX0Q9
luisam
By now should be more then evident that the "failed" coup (staged or not, for any effects it really doesn't matter by now) is being followed by a very real and successful auto-coup of Erdogan, removing from political and social scene al opposition, democratic or else. Obviously, he never "worried" about doing any serious investigations. Looks they had already prepared the list of all those who should be "purged". onlyme2
Herr Hitler's Kristallnacht ended with 30,000 German Jews rounded up, president Erdogan has rounded up 50,000 Turks so far, and the man is not done yet. Sure makes one proud to be a member of NATO, speaking of which, does anyone know who is currently in charge of the 50 or so nuclear warheads stored in Incirlik NATO base in Turkey?
