Windows 10 Redstone 3 Could Launch in the Summer of 2017

Microsoft is getting ready to introduce the Windows 10 Anniversary Update in less than a month, so the company is also preparing to deliver the first Redstone 2 builds to insiders in order to advance to the next development milestone for the operating system.

It’s not a surprise, though, that the software giant is planning in advance, so a report by WindowsCentral reveals that Microsoft is targeting the summer of next year as the release date for the third wave of Redstone.

The Anniversary Update is internally known as Redstone, and its development is split into multiple waves, the first of which will get the green light on August 2. The second Redstone update is expected to land in the spring next year while the third will thus debut in the summer, approximately one year after the first wave.

New Surface models coming shortly after that

While the launch of the third wave of Redstone seems to take place shortly after the second, this is part of Microsoft’s strategy to launch two major Windows 10 updates every year. This aligns with previous reports indicating that Redmond would no longer release new Windows versions, but significant updates for the core Windows OS.

There were reports that Microsoft wanted to align the release of Redstone 2 with the launch of new Surface models, but this no longer seems to be the case, as the company is now allegedly planning to introduce the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2 this year in the fall.

As a result, the next-next generation of Surface devices will see daylight in the fall of 2017, which means that the release of Redstone 3 won’t coincide with their debut.

Certainly, these plans could change at any minute now, given the fact that we’re talking about a product that could see daylight in about 12 months, but it’s very clear that 2017 is going to be an exciting year for Microsoft, partners, and users.

Redstone is Microsoft's new term for Beta.  Redstone 3 = Beta 3.  And more suckers latch on to Microsoft's teat.

Redstone 1 is not even out yet tell next month.  We will be lucky if redstone 1 don't try to charge us for Windows 10 much less be worrying about  fall 2017  thats over a year away.

I'm watching Windows 10 closely and if they start charging a subscription I'm going to switch too just using Linux  I'm not paying a  so much a mounth for something I only had too buy every 10 years. I will buy a Mac OS computer next time were upgrades are not forced on you and there free if this happens.

Windows 10 will not turn in a subscription OS, it was confirmed since long time ago by Gabriel Aul in Twitter.

and btw, even in MAC the updates are mandatory, otherwise it does not let you use some apps.

"UpgradeSubscription" file is to confirm the upgrade/migration process to Windows 10 (next builds), in short words to subscribe to the update/migration to Windows 10 Redstone and newest builds, and nothing else.

and about Start Menu in Windows 8.1, thats was never confirmed by Microsoft, they only confirmed the return of Start Button, the rest was just rumours of mass media.

I hope you're  right for all the people who use Windows 10 sake . But sooner or latter if they never make windows 11 you will have to buy windows 10, they never give out free upgrades past the time they made a new versions of windows,  even though they claimed 5 years, but when they made new windows all service releases stopped it been like that since they made windows 7.  And they don't give security updates for over 10 years.. Microsoft is in the moneymaking business . There not in the giving away stuff for free business . If Windows 8.1 would had sold good they would never been free Windows 10 and reality is it wont be free forever..

What makes it suspicious is the fact every one on windows 7 and 8.1 knows when Windows updates end for them. But Microsoft never even touched bases on there upgrade polices for Windows 10 . So you don't know  what there going to do , you're just guessing . The only thing Windows 10 users know is it was a free upgrade for a year , But they have no idea what is in store for them past  July 29th because Microsoft want talk about it , witch makes it even more suspicious.

Microsoft has it posted the end of life for Windows 10 is 2025, so if they don't sell it as a service that's as long as you will  be able to get security updates . And every  2 or 3 years Microsoft have always came up with a reason  that they want you to buy windows again,  even if it was a good reason are not . They did not become who they are by giving Windows away and time is running out on that free deal.

You better enjoy you're free copy while it last, it's most likely be the last free thing they give you that's not freeware to began with , Because it was a big  failure  they didn't get nowhere near no  billion users and they wanted everyone to leave windows 7 so it would  not end up like XP . That's not going happen anytime soon ether when July 29th comes there will be over a billion windows users not on Windows 10.

IIRC, Microsoft crowed that they'd listened to what users wanted by returning the Start button.

Of course, it didn't have the Start menu functionality or looks that people meant by wanting the Start button restored. Microsoft just played the semantics game, deliberately ignored the users' real intent, and did what Microsoft wanted instead.
