Windows 10 Has More Users than Windows 7 in at Least One European Country

Microsoft’s big challenge these days is to move Windows 7 users to Windows 10, especially because the free upgrade offer will end in approximately 30 days.

And preliminary data for the month of June shows that, at least in some European markets, Windows 10 adoption is growing quite fast, with the new operating system finally overtaking Windows 7.

Windows 10 has improved its market share at a very fast pace in Europe, especially in the Scandinavian region, and StatCounter now indicates that Windows 7 is no longer the leader in at least one country.

Windows 10 is currently the most used desktop operating system in Denmark with 38.31 percent while Windows 7 is the runner-up with 27.23 percent. In Norway, the switch could take place very soon as well, with Windows 10 getting closer to Windows 7 in June (31.95 percent versus 36.83 percent).

No more forced upgrades?

With these statistics in mind, it’s very clear that Microsoft’s Windows 10 upgrade effort is successful, and more users are moving from Windows 7 to the new OS.

Of course, given the company’s rather aggressive push, it’s hard to tell how many of these upgrades were actually performed voluntarily, as there were plenty of complaints that Windows 10 installed on PCs without users first giving their consent.

In the last few weeks, however, there have been no complaints regarding such pushy upgrade tactics, and it looks like Microsoft has resolved all problems that users have criticized lately.

The free upgrade promo ends on July 29, so there are about 30 days left to make the switch to Windows 10 completely free. That will be the day when Microsoft will also pull the Get Windows 10 app responsible for pushing the upgrade to Windows 10, so no more accidental installs of the new operating system should happen beyond that date.

A stupid question but to evaluate what's happening in the OS-world; are there any statistics about Denmark OS users back a year ago? BEFORE Windows 10 was launched? How many Windows 8.1 and 8 were there vs. Windows 7 and XP users and how many NEW PCs were sold during this year long term, carrying Windows 10?

But once people have to pay for it,   Windows 7 may see a gain again for a while.
