[Desktop] Desktop Icons

Sup peoples.

Problem that I a pain, appeared, week or so ago.

If I move/drag an icon on my desktop it opens the program, which I don' want.

When I open a favourite in I.E. it opens the same window twice.

When using the calculator, it sometimes enters the same integer twice.

I went to control panel > folder options and it's on double click twice, so set to default.

Any ideas on a fix?

Verify with another mouse.

Thanks for the reply. So you think it may be the pointer?

I will remove and re-install drivers and get back to thread.

Sometimes the problem is simpler than we imagine . B)

I was refering to the microswitch inside your mouse (not the driver) - that might be your problem .

What you were referring to, I am not sure is the problem as new pointer same thing. I did remove drivers, reboot and reinstall them, seems to have improved problem, but had two (2) instances of it happening.

I am running sfc /scannow currently, to see if it's a system file problem.

I think I solved it myself.

I went to control panel > ease of access > make mouse easier to use (prefer pointer myself) then noticed that the function 'activate a window by hovering over it with a mouse' was not activated.

So I activated it. I then deactivated it.

Seems to have done something, as it seems better.

I dragged a few desktop icons, they did not open, however I still feel one click turns into two (2), so will investigate that.

I did experienced the problem with single clicks interpreted by a mouse as double clicks in the past too.

Every time I got the issue (with 2 mice so far) -  it was a hardware problem and an indicator that my mouse had to be replaced.

If I waited with that replacement  -  problem would incline to grow worse.

I think (fingers crossed) I solved the problem.

I went into mouse properties and changed the double click from slow to nearer fast, see image.

Seems to be working now.

If it worked for you - that's great.

My were definitely hardware related issues and mouse replacement filled the bill both times.

I use a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse (pointer) used them for years and only till two (2) weeks ago did I suffer the problems I mentioned.

Also I thought A.V.G. registry derangement (I posted in another thread) error with Norton Live Update, I spent five (5) hours testing every cleaner and registry cleaner I uses and I found out it was

the built in tool Microsoft provide (it's in windows/system) that was causing the problems.

It was o.k. till a couple of weeks ago.

Drives me nuts, the amount of hours I have wasted trying to fix problems, four (4) today five (5) yesterday, those nine (9) hours could have been spent on finishing the book I am currently reading.

Many years ago, someone joked ''windows is a virus don't use it'' people laughed, sometimes it seems true.

I will still bob along for a few days and if I feel problems are not fixed with this post I will try something else and post it, so thanks for your time

Hello again, eyes to the right (those that thought it is software problem) and eyes to the left (hardware believers), got an answer finally.

Eyes to the left win!

I am shocked pointer lasted only three (3) years.

All done now, son has same pointer, swapped em over and it's hardware.

I tried edit, not working, just hangs.

I forgot to add, also, clue might have been, drag and copy of words, didn't work, renaming, slower system.

All gone, so yes hardware.

Also I believe it also has caused my screen saver to stop working for the past six (6) months.

I know, I know, I know, I don't need a screen saver using a L.C.D. screen, but my monitor is like a Fish Tank.

Makes me happy :)

So my diagnose was right.

I used to use Logitech Performance Mouse MX cordless mouse. Even I payed US $100 for it - it broke down only 2 months after the 3-years warranty was over.

My experience with the cheapest supermarket mouse (US $3) was equally bad. It'd been working for 1 month only, but at least I didn't spend a fortune for it.

So recently I decided to test Chinese clone of my previous Logitech Performance MX. Payed US $15 only and ....so far so good. It performs not much worse that original Logitech. We will see for how long ......
