Batu69
Survey respondents tie Dark Web activity to cyber-crime Dark Web Ipsos poll survey results Seven in ten people that were part of an international survey would like to see the Dar Web shut down, seeing it as a place for hackers, criminal activity and illegal marketplaces. The Dark Web, or Darknet, is a collection of Internet websites that can only be accessed using special software like Tor and I2P, but mostly Tor. But while Tor is generally viewed as a tool for good, used by political dissidents, journalists, human rights activists, and whistleblowers, the Dark Web, which Tor facilitates access to and has helped build, doesn't share this positive image. According to a new Ipsos poll commissioned by the Centre for International Governance Innovation(CIGI), 71% of respondents in 24 countries would like to see the Dark Web shut down. 36% are strongly in favor of this measure, while 35% do somewhat agree with this decision. For the other respondents, 10% strongly disagree with shutting down the Dark Web, while 19% are somewhat in favor of this hidden section of the Internet, and would like to see it go on. Indonesians and Indians hate the Dark Web the most The countries in which Dark Web is viewed as an agent of evil are Indonesia (85% would like to see it shut down), India (82%), Mexico (80%), China (79%), Egypt (79%), South Africa (77%), Pakistan (76%), France (76%), Great Britain (76%), Brazil (73%), Canada (73%), Australia (72%), the United States (72%), and Turkey (71%). The parts of the globe where the Dark Web approval rating is smaller than the global average is Tunisia (69%), Italy (68%), Germany (67%), Poland (65%), Japan (63%), Nigeria (62%), Hong Kong (62%), Kenya (61%), South Korea (61%) and Sweden (61%). This overwhelmingly negative view of the Dark Web can be explained by the many high-profile takedowns of Dark Web portals hosting child pornography. Additionally, the proliferation of Dark Web Bitcoin-based drug and weapons marketplaces hasn't helped its image either. With almost any ransomware variant that pops up these days redirecting users to a Tor-hosted website, even people that haven't heard of the Silk Road case end up associating the Dark Web with criminal activity. Stanners
We as a community need it more than ever now as its one of the few places that is not totally regulated by the "man". So many governments around the world tell us we have free speech but in reality you don't and if your government does go absolutely power mad - Dark Web may be the only chance you have to fight back. Those that voted to shutdown Dark Web are narrow minded people who cant think for them selves!

I don't know how necessary it is but it does seem to be a favorite haunt of law enforcement these days. There is no security anymore, people just don't want to wake up and realize that technology ended any privacy and security you ever had. It started with phone books, moved to credit card reporting, and now the internet. Slowly but surely all your private information became public, a piece at a time. kowalski215
Most of people I know would answer "What's the dark web?". It's sounds like an ignorant survey (w/ respect to the author of the post, I'm not blaming him/her) since stats are pretty ambiguous. Anyway, I used to surf the deep web some times ago, sth really impressive... I think it's sth you'll never be able to shutdown.

Only way you're info becomes public if you're dumb enough to post it on the internet . witch this is the majorly of people now days even law enforcements personal business gets splattered all over the WWW, so there just as ignorant as the masses there's not really many government ran things that's not been hacked cell phones have always been vulnerable back when they 1st came out they were just like a radio anyone with a scanner could pick them up. Most of credit card and banking is done online nowdays and terrorist dont like using the darknet they like to be in the open . So the FBI or NSA want stop that by monitoring the darknet .And only a idiot would sell drugs on the darknet they could catch all of them and it would not put a dent in it . Most drugs are sold at peoples houses and on the streets .And most of these people who done this poll never been on the darknet so they dont even know what it is ,but would they read and see on the news
Administrator DKT27 Posted March 30, 2016 Administrator Share Posted March 30, 2016 I have personally never been on it, after hearing so much about it, I do not want to either. But to shut it or allow it, well, I'm not so sure about either of it. All I can say is that hardcore criminals need to be stopped, whether on the open web or not. However, for it to be shut, it is probably not possible I think.

The darknet is not just used for crime there's many personal site/blog that are invite only that are on it that have nothing to do with crime they just prefer to be hidden .Even Facebook has a darknet ip to fight censorship in some places. Quote The reasons vary, some prefer it to clearnet for security reasons, some are related to Tor/Privacy, and many are made on Tor because they live in a country where speaking out may be illegal. Why it promotes crime to bad people, it offers freedom of speech to many were its not legal to have a voice. So there all voting against the freedom of speech and dont realize what the darknet really is . I dont need the darknet because We have laws were I'm from that allow freedom of speech for now but people voting against it i dont know for how much longer. But what gives others a right to vote to take away some peoples only means of speaking out?

What I particularly am against in it is the hardcore criminals on it. The open internet has all that too, though not to that level, but no one speaks of shutting it. Governments want you to believe the darknet is just a place for criminals and the real problem is starring them right in there face . All the robberies and malware gets done on the clearnet even if they could shut down the darknet witch i doubt is possible the criminals would just move to a different encrypted platform TOR is one of the less safer ones because its being watched by law enforcement . vibranium
It would take inter-governmental, inter-agency effort to shut down the current form of the dark web. Maybe it would take a new world order? What happens at the end of that? You're just driving hard-core criminals deeper underground.
