The Department of Justice postponed its quest to receive assistance from Apple in an iPhone unlocking case earlier this week. It put the case on hold due to the appearance of an alternative way into the handset, which we now know could be coming from a company called Cellebrite.

A report from Yedioth Ahronoth (Israel) claims the company, which is based in Israel and owned by Sun Corporation in Japan, is able to unlock the iPhone 5C in question. If Cellebrite is capable of what it has allegedly claimed, the FBI won't need Apple's help.

Apple has fought against an order to create a weakened version of iOS for the FBI. The Department of Justice could still resume its case against the company, but for now, the case isn't moving forward. Apple's lawyers say the situation certainly isn't over yet.

Cellebrite makes software capable of "bit-for-bit extraction and in-depth decoding and analysis" of data collected from many mobile devices. Its software may work on the iPhone that was used by the the San Bernardino shooter.

The involvement of Cellebrite in the case has not been confirmed.
