asf
Hi there I'm on a windows 8.1 computer, and i'm trying to create a bootable windows 7 installation USB, but for some unknown reasons i'm having trouble doing it, (needless to say that it's not my first time creating and booting bootable USB drives) First i tried creating the bootable USb drive, using "Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool" but for some unknown reason it failed (i did it a lot of times but the first time it failed) then i went over to rufus and succeeded to create a bootable windows 7 flash drive, i tested it via MobaLiveCD and it passed the test, but when i tried to boot it at the actual computer it didn't want to boot . I am thinking maybe there is a problem creating bootable windows installations in windows 8? (EUFI, i have duel boot) for reference: the computer i'm trying to install new windows 7 is Toshiba Satellite A600 PSAW3E (Not available in north america) Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance

Do you expect that your computer automatically starts from USB, as usual this if use CD/DVD?
asf
First yes the computer should be able to boot from a USB Second i didn't say that would automatically start but when selected in the boot menu yes it should start.
Kalju
And you want to do this for installing Windows or add as additional USB drive

Kalju
Simply extract ISO and save to USB, if start computer hold F12 and boot menu maust open, then make Your desired selection. Sometimes it isn't F12, but is for example F1, Esc or Delete etc key, but it is for all newer pc usually F12. If not, try to find out, what's on your case Sometimes may be problem with fast boot, then is needed to disable it at first. For me don't have never happened so. rudrax
I don't know exactly why. What I observed is rufus modifies files when it creates bootable media where ultraISO doesn't.
Kalju
Basically correct, but too complex. It is always possible, before the partition to format, or when to do it just before installation already when it is launched from USB However, if it is needed to maintain the files and folders (Windows 8 and higher) then is not needed at all any format.
