Administrator DKT27 Posted December 28, 2015 Administrator Share Posted December 28, 2015 This will annoy the content industry ASUS is installing ad-blocking software in all its phones or tablet and will enable it by default. AdBlock Plus’s cofounder and CEO, Till Faida revealed that his company was working with ASUS to bring ad blocking to the hardware manufacturer's stock browser. More than this, ad blocking will be switched on by default. This is a move which will sail up the nasal passages of Big Content everywhere. It will be installed in the ASUS browser which is generally used by those to download other browsers. It is apparently used by more than 15 million people. But the crucial thing is that the move might be copied by other browser makers. "We're extremely happy to team up with Asus, the first major hardware manufacturer to integrate ad blocking into their mobile devices. This is another call for innovation in the ad industry -- a call getting louder by the day," Faida said. This year saw lots of debates as Big Content fought against ad-blocking technology as a way of protecting the revenue from news sites. As a news site dependent on advertising we have some sympathy however most of the big content sites effectively stuffed up their own business model by listening to their advertising departments and creating adverts which were so intrusive that you practically had to install ad-blockers if you wanted to read the content. Particularly annoying is the browser hijack which turns your screen black other than the advert, or something that requires you to fill in a questionnaire and give the company all your private data before you can read a news story. These make great sense to advertising departments who, face it, only see their bonus for selling an expensive advert and don't realise that people are not actually visiting the site to look at ads. SURbit
Good read DKT27, I know Google Play Store kicked Adguard of it's site for it's ability in blocking ads, which didn't deter Adguard from the masses. I wonder if ASUS will soon go beyond just the Browser and offer for ASUS phones or tablet the ability to also block ads in software of install games and apps as well, like Adguard does now. I'm actually starting to consider router based ad blocking now. Reason being, one, most of ads are from few known ad providers, two, does not use mobile resources and three, works for all the apps and games too. It's only for people who use WiFi for their phones though.

If 1 and 2 is yes can you throw me a bone here, and say a couple software app's to do this router setup. Just out of curiosity what are your thoughts about Adguard with it's firewall option as well for this, other than mobile resources used. Or would that be like apples to oranges comparison. I'm finding this interesting so please do elaborate as much as you care too. Thanks...

I have not tried Adguard, but did ABP for some time. It slowed my previous phone. The new version required special permission so did not bother to install it. Currently using Firefox for Android with uBlock Origin installed on it. It does feel little laggy but I'm not sure if it's Firefox, uBlock or the huge list of blocking pre-enabled in it.
