The Kodi media hub is preparing for another major release, and a new Beta for the 16.x branch is now ready for testing. A lot of fixes have been added, but it looks like the Music Library has received some proper attention.

The developers of Kodi are in full swing, and they have released a new Beta for the 16.0 version. We know that each time they have something for us, it is not going to be disappointing, and the same can be said about the current release. It’s jam-packed with numerous fixes and small additions, but the main focus seems to have been the Music Library.

Kodi is a media hub and having a powerful Music Library is mandatory. Even if the previous versions of Kodi have been quite good in the music department, the makers of the application still found things to add and to improve.

What’s new in Kodi 16.0 Beta 3?

The Kodi devs have picked up the pace, and they are now pushing updates once a week. This is much faster than we were used to, but they think that this is better for the overall quality of the app.

One of the biggest changes made to the Music Library is the implementation of a much better “scan to library” option than the one previously available. “After you added a new music file source it will now ask you if you want to scan all the files in that folder using the tag data in those files and organise it for you,” the devs wrote in their announcement.

The proper tags are now being used for sorting the music, but the songs need to have metadata from ID3v1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, Vorbis Comments or APE. Users can also use tools like MusicBrainz Picard, Mp3Tag, or TagScanner to improve the metadata.

When all is said and done, the Music Library should look and function just like the Video Library does. Kodi now supports splitting up the music in sections like Genres, Artists, Albums, and so on, smartplaylists, share the songs in the home-network, and a lot more.
