PeaZip 5.9.0 Open Source Archiver Adds Support for Extracting RAR5 Files on Linux

The developers of the PeaZip software, a cross-platform and open-source graphical application designed as a front-end for some popular archive managers, such as 7z, p7zip, RAR, ZIP, etc., announced the release and immediate availability of PeaZip 5.9.0.

PeaZip 5.9.0 a few interesting features, among which we can mention support for extracting RAR5 archives under any GNU/Linux operating system without the need for using the UNRAR5 plugin, which is now available as an alternative extraction engine.

While the p7zip backed has been updated to version 15.09 for GNU/Linux users, the 7z backend was upgraded to version 15.12 on Microsoft Windows operating systems. On the other hand, the Pea backend was updated to version 0.52.

In order to reduce the dependencies of PeaZip on GNU/Linux OSes, the installers now include various backends, such as arc, zpaq, quad, upx, lpaq, and paq, into the Optional Formats plugin.

PeaZip 5.9.0 also improves the UTF-8 support for Microsoft Windows operating system, provides a more robust configuration process, improves the startup performance, automatically saves the last valid configuration, and activates the volatile mode on errors.

The file manager received many improvements

PeaZip's file manager received multiple improvements in the new maintenance release, such as better support for deleting free space securely, support for manually stopping archive operations, as well as accurate information about currently running tasks.

Additionally, the file manager now displays information about the hashing and analysis tools, the content of the files and folders is now reported in bytes for easy detection of duplicates, and it can now store reports for any column.

The hashing and content preview modes now display a quick preview of the files, and the hashing and analysis tools have been added in the Test drop-down group in PeaZip's toolbar.

Last but not least, PeaZip is now capable for automatically removing irrelevant intermediate folder when attempting to extract an archive into a new directory. Download PeaZip 5.9.0 for GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows.
