Satya Nadella says Windows 10 is built on trust

Many accused Microsoft of violating users' privacy with Windows 10, as it's been demonstrated that the operating system collects information from their computers even when not asked to, but the company claims that no personal data is actually being transmitted.

Instead, Terry Myerson, head of the operating systems group at the company, said recently that Windows 10 only gets information that's absolutely mandatory for the overall stability and security of the platform, including data collected when an app crashes.

And even if some info indeed leaves your computer, everything is fully encrypted, Myerson said.

Now CEO Satya Nadella said at the Microsoft Government Cloud Forum in Washington D.C. that the company is investing billions of dollars in security technology supposed to protect user data, thus making sure that even if information is being sent to the firm, it can't be accessed afterwards.

“We spend over a billion dollars of R&D a year building security into our mainstream products, because we don't think of security as being a separate piece of technology,” the CEO said.

A relationship based on trust

Nadella then went on to explain that winning users' trust is what the company is trying to do right now, so accessing information that customers do not want to share is completely the opposite of Microsoft's new direction. Instead, the software giant's trying to build a relationship based on trust, Nadella explains.

“Trust is at the center of this - it captures our optimism for the future, optimism for how digital technology can play a positive role in every walk of life and every sector of the economy. People are not going to use the technology if they can't trust it, and that's why trust to is essential. We're taking a principled approach with strong commitments to make sure that our customers can trust the digital technology they use,” he continued.

If you're already on Windows 10 and want to have a look into the information that the OS might be sending to Microsoft, launch the Settings screen and look in the Privacy section to see the options that are currently enabled on your PC.

A relationship of trust? Give us a break...

Forced cumulative no-detail Windows 10 updates, endless nagging to upgrade to Windows 10, soon making Windows 10 upgrade a Recommended Update to TRICK more into upgrading, privacy options scattered/hidden all over the place. That's supposed to build trust?

I trust nothing that comes out of this guy's mouth any more, and that goes for his marketing (AKA lying) cohort "The top question we're asked is 'How do I upgrade to Windows 10?'" Myerson too!

So why do they have to "collect" or even "force collect" in the first place...(sigh) paying them to use their OS is not enough...they want control not just for the updates but also for user informations... maybe i could send them those informations they want to but please, don't force us. Its not about personal informations we don't want them to collect...no matter how you look at it,it is still information they are collecting. What more is that those informations came from our Personal Machines.

The reason is simple it's greed .. There are no data retention laws in the USA were M$ is at . DuckDuckGo , Linux and other Open source software is proof of that . The should be spending Billions of dollars on making there O/S better because there not going to be able to protect you’re privacy at a Government level no way so its a waste of money that by the way you’re paying for to began with by them collecting you’re data . If you install windows 10 you agreed to let them collect you’re data. so you signed up for it by installing it .

A lying Obama. Now, a lying Nadella. They both have broken internet peace in their period drastically. They both are two nuclear disasters to the world, Obama with Surveillance and Nadella with Microsoft.

As of Nadella's mistakes, you can see the victims of the good working s/w. Bitdefender, currently in the same state of Win 10. It is not just Bitdefender, the other AV's GUI and navigation, features have been destroyed. CCleaner, the good looks have been destroyed.

The root cause is MS->Nadella and his team, incl. Ballmer and his old team.

People have to kill MS completely down the throat to teach a lesson on how to be good to consumers and not just enterprise products and governments.

We can acheive this easily. All we have to do is people need to buy all shares of MS and give exit to Nadella and his team. People at the same time have to move to different OS other than MS list of OS, especillay develop Linux more friendly to break down MS into pieces. People have to create good s/w and tools to compete MS services and tools.
