Dell, HP, Lenovo Tech Support Services Tell Users to Remove Windows 10 - Report

PC makers’ support services aren’t trained for Windows 10

Contacting tech support when something goes wrong should be the last entry on your options list, and as far as Microsoft’s own services are concerned, we all know that you should expect the worse to happen when getting in touch with an engineer.

But when it comes to Windows 10, tech support engineers don’t seem to be well trained to aid customers in fixing issues or setting up specific features, and most of them actually recommend the complete removal of the OS and the downgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1.

Laptopmag performed a test to determine how tech support services respond when asked about Windows 10 problems, but surprisingly, the answer was in every case odd and unexpected.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo support engineers have one by one recommended users to uninstall Windows 10 and go back to their previous Windows version, be it 7 or 8.1.

“Why don’t you keep the mic always on?”

In Dell’s case, when the support service was contacted for instructions on changing the touchpad’s scrolling direction on a laptop running Windows 10, the engineers at the other end of the line complained about the operating system’s performance and transferred the call to another “expert” who recommended removing Windows 10.

As for HP, the support engineer not only tried to resolve the reported problem to no avail but also attempted to downgrade to Windows 8.1, saying that she “doesn’t recommend customers to upgrade to Windows 10.”

And last but not least, Lenovo’s staff had no idea about Hey Cortana and advised the caller to keep the microphone always on in order to be able to launch the personal assistant at any given moment.

While all these suggestions are clearly against Microsoft’s policy of encouraging everyone to move to Windows 10, Mike Nash, HP's VP of customer experience, had a very good answer when asked why support staff tell users to downgrade: “at the end of the day, the person’s job is to get the PC running.”

Although I understand and for most users Windows 10 isn't something good, for the moment anyway, they are not advising people to get out of Windows 10 because the system is bad, they are doing that because the so called engineers are just incompetent or lazy.

No company should advise an user to downgrade a software knowing that old software in most cases is outdated.

That is just dumb and lazy.

This rule "if it ain't broke, don't change" goes completely against evolution, if we don't change things how can we evolve?

The thing is that most hardware developers are not ready for Windows 10, most of them were not entirely ready for Windows 8.1 a year ago...

When you have a computer that came with windows 8 on it and the driver vendor don't even support windows 10 drivers for it then you will realize why they tell you too roll back . When they sell you a computer even if its under warranty its only under warranty for the windows that came on it . Just because Microsoft is giving there O/S away for a year free don't mean PC manufacturers is going to give you a new computer or new hardware that will support windows 10. All the PC manufacturers are ready for windows 10 on there new line of 2015/2016 PCs that are being shipped now. PC manufacturers are not trying to push Windows 10 on everyone M$ is. You could even buy new XP computers at some sites many years after windows 7 came out .

When we buy a computer they are supposed to build drivers for the main system, I don't think this was ever stated in any document, but plain simple, if they don't, people won't buy from them anymore, and will start buying from someone else.

I can't expect my computer to have drivers for a system created 5 years later, but for something created 3 years later, yeah, it should have drivers available.

Windows 8.0 was launched around august 2012 and every single computer that was purchased after that should be able to run Windows 10 and should have drivers working perfectly.

I know they have thousands of model yeah, but if that is the problem they could simply start creating less models and focus, 'cause most of the models launched even if different, they are pretty much the same, so why create 10 things instead of just 1 or 2.

The main sellers like Dell and Lenovo don't have that many model under a 3 year window anyway.

BTW, didn't know HP was still selling PC/notebooks they are kinda dead here in Brazil. We see mostly Dell(good ones) and Positivo(Crappy but cheaper ones).

Yep you should be able to upgrade with out much problems but its never been so. PC manufacturers cant see in the future . Just like all the millions of XP boxes sold couldn't even upgrade to Vista . But that leads back to Microsoft and it being closed source DX etc . You have all these people running Windows 10 using DX11 still there not even getting the full benefit of upgrading they want never see DX12 unless they pay money . So M$ makes upgrading sound a 100 times better than it is in reality . They give you a box full of spyware that Driver vendors and PC manufacturers want support years before they stop supporting there other projects . So little people upgraded from XP that M$ even gave it years of extra support. People never have like upgrading.

No matter what...the first thing is "if Windows 10 isn't advisable....why on the earth they're selling new PC/Notebook stating compatibility / upgradeable to Windows 10." When it's stated upgradeability, it's their (OEm companies) responsibility to build drivers or say clearly to "not to upgrade." otherwise, people seeing ""upgradeability will definitely go for the new. And the foremost thing, these so called engineers are just good for nothing. There are many classic examples of these engineers "engineering."
