Microsoft rolled out this build to the Fast ring

Microsoft has recently rolled out Windows 10 build 10586 for insiders subscribed to the fast ring channel of the preview program, with the slow track to get it very soon if no major bugs are found.

Just as expected because we’re only a few days away from the public launch of Windows 10 Threshold 2, build 10586 doesn’t bring anything too exciting, but only bug fixes and performance improvements supposed to enhance the overall experience with the OS.

Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, confirmed that this new version is all about fixing known issues and general improvements, but he explained that “we’ve been loving this build in our internal rings as it is very fast and smooth, and makes a great daily driver.”

Fixed bugs

Specifically, build 10586 comes with tweaks to the store that should make apps and games download faster – this was actually quite a common problem on many Windows 10 PCs, with users complaining that at random times, apps and updates either take forever to download or do not download at all.

At the same time, there are also improvements for Microsoft Edge browser. Aul explains:

“We fixed an issue where Tab previews in Microsoft Edge were appearing as black if the page was not scrolled to the top, and web note clippings were also appearing as black.”

And last but not least, there are a bunch of fixes for Surface Pro 3 tablets, so now pressing the power button on the device should no longer shut it down but put it to sleep, which is actually the correct behavior.

Windows 10 build 10586 is believed to be Threshold 2, the update that everyone is likely to get next week, so expect it to run very smoothly on all PCs. For the moment, it’s only available via Windows Update and for fast ring users, but depending on feedback, it could be publicly released for the slow track and RTM users in just a few days.
