Microsoft Edge Not Yet a Worthy Replacement for Chrome and Firefox, Users Claim

There are simply too many bad things, they add

Microsoft Edge is the browser that the Redmond-based tech company promised would make Internet Explorer a bad memory, but it turns out that, just like its predecessor, the new application has its very own problems.

Leaving the lack of features aside, which is clearly the key reason many people decide to stay away from it, Edge also has some performance issues that are leading to sudden crashes or freezes on a number of computers.

As you can see in these screenshots, many of those who turned to the Windows 10 Feedback app to report problems to Microsoft about Edge browser complain about the overall stability of the program. Coupled with the lack of features, this makes Edge a browser to avoid for the time being for many Windows 10 users, especially because Chrome, Firefox, and Opera all seem to work flawlessly on the new OS.

Upcoming improvements

Microsoft is well aware of the fact that Edge still needs significant updates, so the company is working to bring them to Windows 10 as soon as possible, but it still takes time to make sure that no major bugs exist.

Extension support, for instance, won’t arrive sooner than the summer of 2016, when it could be part of the Redstone update for Windows 10. This means we still have to wait more than six months to get what is clearly one of the most anticipated features of the browser.

An ad blocker is also missing from Edge, despite the fact that right now this is the most requested feature for the browser. Microsoft, however, hasn’t said anything about the possibility of getting an ad blocker in Edge, so the company might actually skip this recommendation in future updates.

In the meantime, Edge can hardly be considered a worthy replacement for the other browsers, especially when looking at how fast they all get updates these days.

Not customizable enough.

Heck, you have to jump thru hoops to redirect downloads to a folder of your choice with registry editing.

Not enough options for user control.

Not a worthy replacement for any of the current popular browsers, if you ask me.

If they allowed add blocker extensions wouldn't that cut revenue from data mined for adds?

Yeah, Google's. MS data mining is baked right into the OS.

It will be strange to see M$ get ad blocking extensions indeed .ABP for IE never has worked in IE11 right . Only Adguard fully worked in it . seems its the only thing that fully works for EDGE as well . :P

Knowing M$ they will try to charge you money for a adblocker extension if they ever allow one in there store . They even try to charge you for there Solitaire in windows 10.

I don't get it. MS never delivers a passable product, yet expects everyone to jump on their bandwagon.

A better attitude will go a long way Microsoft. Better start listening, people choose other alternatives for a reason. If you want their business, better listen to them, otherwise, you only have yourself to blame.

Trickery and forcing people (AKA win10) will only get you so much, before users get fed up and seek better solutions.

IE did not need a name change, there were problems that edge dose not solve. If you want a piece of Chrome and Firefox's market/mind shares, you better deliver a competent product.

Its according to witch site you look at netmarketshare claims IE beats out chrome but they go by if you open the browser up 2 times in a month.. So i more less take what start counter to be more accurate . it shows Chrome to be way ahead . Firefox marketshare is about the same as its been since summer and IE has drooped to about the same as Firefox and all of the IE users are switching to Chrome because of switching to Windows 10.

Wasn't talking about netmarketshare, just reasons why people prefer Chrome and Firefox.

I have not used IE in years, my main browser is FF, I use Chrome occasionally to test some sites.

Ive not really been a fan of Firefox since they added australis to Firefox. And I never used Goggle Chrome no more than to run some test Only Chrome browser I use is Slimjet now because its better for privacy. :)
