We announced yesterday that there is now Whats App on Firefox OS. Guess what, we might have left the most important part. Yes its true there is Whats App on Firefox OS but does this mean all Firefox OS phones running version 2.5 will have Whats App on Firefox OS? in this article we explain further.

So here is it, ACL. Whats App on Firefox OS was made available by ACL. ACL is a set of components which enables non android operating systems such as Firefox OS run android apps. Open source ACL should be provided by these operating systems to run the apps. Currently Firefox os doesn’t provide this feature.

What does this mean for Whats App on Firefox OS? Whats App wont run on Firefox OS devices just like that. They will run on Firefox OS using a layer by ACL, which integrates Android applications runtime on Firefox OS which allows the use of android apps on Firefox OS apps. Which practically means Whats App on Firefox OS will not work without ACL layer.

What happens to existing Firefox OS users? We cant confirm the exact face of all existing users but from what we know ACL might not work on Flame especially and maybe Sony Foxfooding devices, this is because ACL may be chipset dependent and may need special optimization to work functionally.
