Snappy Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Will Support Nvidia and AMD Drivers, Says Mark Shuttleworth

The OS will also support Intel graphics drivers

Remember when we told you guys that Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical and Ubuntu Linux, the world's most popular free operating system, said that Snappy Ubuntu Core 16.04 LTS will support private snaps?

Well, today we have more awesome news for all of you who use the Snappy Ubuntu Core operating system on embedded and IoT devices, as Mr. Shuttleworth stated in a recent email on the Snappy Core mailing list that the upcoming Ubuntu Snappy Core 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system will support proprietary grapichs drivers.

When asked by Dan Kegel if Snappy Ubuntu Core has support for high-performance OpenGL graphics drivers, such as the proprietary ones from Nvidia and AMD, as well as those from Intel, Mark Shuttleworth replied immediately that they will all be supported in the 16.04 LTS release of the operating system.

"What's the situation with high performance opengl graphics drivers on Snappy?," said Dan Kegel. "AFAIK, binary drivers from Nvidia, AMD, or Intel are the only way to go for folks that do heavy graphics, and last I checked, snappy didn't support those. Or am I wrong, and there's some support for them now?"

In the meantime, those who want to have support for the Nvidia, AMD, and Intel graphics drivers in the current stable release of the Snappy Ubuntu Core operating system can make their own images that integrated those proprietary drivers, also according to Mark Shuttleworth.

I wish it would work with my gt540m that uses the integrated Intel + nVidia, but it never did, at least not even close to the way it should.
