[SOLVED] DTS/MKV Audio Issue...

HX1

Recommended Posts

Okay here goes..

I play MKV files all of the time.. everything is fine with other files...

I have this one 3GB size file.. and it will not play audio.. I am using MPC-HC x64 by default but have tried to play it in other players.. Lav Splitter opens and Lav Video.. BUT no Lav Audio icon ( and yes tray is turned on and operating in other files.. )

MPC = Video no audio.. yet states it has an audio stream..

Movies & TV = same

Windows Media Player = same

Windows Photo App = same

Xbox Video on Windows RT = Can't play this file.. while it plays other MKV files just fine...

Have looked at settings.. codecs... Ran Codec Tweak to fix codecs.. reinstalled MPC.. still nothing..

Is the file a nuke ? sometimes groups mess them up if that's the only one you're having trouble with? If you were having issues playing dts you would noticed it on more than one file. :)

Actually, MKV is not any video format, rather a multimedia container format can contain most kind of encoded videos/audios in a multiplexed form. Therefore, sometimes you found MKVs are playing well, sometimes not. Cause, contained videos/audios are not the same format always your player can support (due to lack of proper decoder/filter).

In your case, audio is encoded in DTS (digital Theater System) as I seen in your media info report. Have you tried playing with VLC (Videolan) player? VLC can play this format very well. I never had any issue with DTS while playing with VLC. You may also try Splash Pro player. For example, below movie plays well with all the features enabled in VLC.

Here, uploaded 1 minute long file for your testing (same kind of audio):

If plays well, then your player is okay, the mentioned file is corrupted. But if have the same issue, then, you can consider changing your player.

Thanks, will check this out... :)

EDIT: Solved.. I fixed this issue by disabling the HDMI Passthrough.. Codec Tweak Tool > Audio Output... It either seems to be broken or will not emulate on my TV for whatever reason...

Sound is working now..

I did find and older article that stated MPC was doing this.. fine ( original version ) but the MPC-HC version .. was broken in some way and would not allow it I am thinking like I mentioned above that possibly the hardware simply is not working with it.

Good to hear that. But why you need to configure devices from Codec Tweak tools? VLC natively support this.

This is the reason I abandoned all kind of codec packs (including twekers) many years ago and now I am free from any hassle those usually create.
